Stormy, Misty's Foal

Beautifully written and entertaining.
I enjoyed the characters - human and animal alike. The author keeps the story going at a good pace and is appropriate for all age levels.

Great for a second grader.
I gave this five stars as a chapter book to read to an elementary school-aged child. Our daughter is on the second grade level of homeschooling, without ever having attended public school. I remember reading Misty of Chincoteague as a child. We started with that one and finished. I don't recall reading this one, about her foal born during a hurricane, so it has been a little more fun to read, not knowing what is coming next. Not too many chapter books have held our seven y/o daughter's attention. She couldn't tolerate the original Wizard of Oz series that I read to my older children. Maybe they were older than seven though. She asked me to quit reading Alice and Wonderland, and Charlotte's Web. This is our second Marguerite Henry book in a row though. It may have something to do with our child loving horses, and taking riding lessons from an aunt. Some nights she doesn't want me to stop reading until she falls asleep; other nights one chapter seems like too much, but she does not want me to stop this book. It is written a little after the manner of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn books, but not quite as bad. I have trouble pronouncing some of the made-up words depicting Grandma and Grandpa's speech though. It is a delightful book, with a touch of geography and history.

She loved the book and said it was the best book ...
I bought this book for my 7 year old daughter. She loved the book and said it was the best book she ever read. She can't wait to go to Chincoteague someday. But she said that she wanted to know if the Phantom was still alive. I cried when the ponies were found dead. We both loved the book though!

Cheaply constructed version of a lovely classic
I love all Marguerite Henry's stories, and this one is no exception. The problem is with the construction of this particular product. The version I'm reviewing is published by Aladdin paperbacks and is basically a cheap paperback with a nice hardback cover. It's much smaller (5 x 7) than the traditional versions of Henry's books . The illustrations are reproduced in the low budget manner of mass produced paperbacks. Quite overpriced for the quality.

and this book is just as good now as it was when I was a kid
I revisited my youth with this one, and this book is just as good now as it was when I was a kid. I really love the artwork, not to mention the quantity of pictures. Great story.

A beautiful book, story-wise and art-wise.
What a beautiful book! I love the story which I first read when I was 11 years old (many years ago!), and the artwork and presentation of the book are just gorgeous! I'll treasure it!

I love the stories about Misty
I love the stories about Misty, and now about her filly foal Stormy, Margaret Henry has captured the essence of Chincoteague and of Maureen and Paul Beebe, andt their grandparents. I have now got most of the series of Misty on kindle.

An entertaining, well written story for children who love horses and farm life.
I used this story as a novel study with a grade 2 girl who loves horses. It was also a follow up to the prequel, Misty of Chincoteague that we studied earlier in the year. Support in the actual reading of the story was needed, but as a shared reading experience (usually with her parents prior to our meeting) it is wonderful. So much to talk about!! After reading chapter by chapter, we meet on face-time and discuss the engaging characters and their adventures and she then summarizes and illustrates each chapter. The story is very engaging, with humorous interchanges, wholesome interactions, good lessons to be learned, and emotion laden events.
