If you can only get ONE...
If you can only get ONE of her records (and she was meant to be heard on vinyl - preferably late at night), THIS is the one...If you can only get TWO, it’s this and “London By Night” (and if you can only get THREE, it’s these two and “Around Midnight”); But I digress...“Basin Street Blues” and “I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues” start the LP off a bit brassy; But by the time we get to “A Nightingale Can Sing the Blues”, settle in for a dreamy, hypnotic ride that continues on through “Get Set for the Blues”, “Invitation to the Blues” and “Bye Bye Blues”.Side 1 concludes with “Baby, Baby, All the Time” and the devastating “Shadow Woman”. These weren’t really part of this LP’s original release, but as they were recorded during it’s overall sessions (for release as a single), they feel very much a part of the conceptual vibe of the album. If you can pull yourself out of the dream-like aura that Ms. London has put you into and flip the record over to Side 2, “Meaning of the Blues”, “About the Blues”, “Sunday Blues”, (the languid, luxurious) “Blues Is All I Ever Had”, “Blues in the Night”, “Bouquet of Blues”, “Meaning of the Blues” (single version) and (the spooky) “Dark” complete the proceedings.Thoughts on this record and on her:I always kinda half knew who she was - I even knew enough to know that when Jazz-darling Diana Krall emerged on the scene in the early 2000’s, she took a lot of inspiration from Julie London.I came across a handful of London’s original Liberty releases in a vintage vinyl store in New Orleans, prompting me to get a number of her re-issues on super-quiet virgin vinyl (all the more to add to the intimacy of the experience).Ms. London’s vocals can be incredibly intimate... There’s times where it seems like she’s right in the room with you - if not right at your ear, calling across the generations. Her records seem to be made up of 2/3rd’s standards (but not real well-known standards, allowing her to truly make the song her own), and about 1/3rd original material written directly for her by her Producer (& future husband) Bobby Troupe, and her childhood friend Arthur Hamilton - who REALLY seem to know how to write for her.A Note To Her Surviving Children (if they happen to be reading this): It would be easy to think that she’s been forgotten, but she obviously hasn’t.

Fantastic buy.
I bought this for my husband, we both love listening to it. We listen to it as back ground music during supper.

Well Worth It
Although the shipping was 4 days late, I don't really mind the wait. It is completely worth it, even if you wait 1 week for it. Absolutely love it
