Great for a quick stufy on the life and accomplishments of Les Paul
Tho this was wriiten on a youngster's reading level, it's anything but childish. That makes it a quick read and a great book for a quick study on the life and accomplishments of Les Paul and Mary Ford. There are plenty of books on the Pauls, some of them quite expensive, but many deal more with a history of the guitar than the man and his wife and their stellar career. After reading, I passed this on to my grandkids because I felt that it was a great lesson on personal achievement that could be applied to a career in almost any field. It's hingepins are recognizing one's own talents, developing and applying them, and sticking to one's one dreams and ways of doing things. With a generous dose of chutzpah (as only Les had it) in getting folks to recognize one's developed abilities. --bb

Good book that gave a full picture of Les Paul's life and accomplishments. My 3rd grader read this for a biography book report and it was a great book that he read with ease and was enjoyable.

Strange book?!
As a musician, albeit a bassist,I was always very interested in this man and his accomplishments, which contributed so much to recording techniques and electric instruments of today.I've seen a couple of TV programmes about his life, and I wanted a book to read on the subject. This book, however is mighty strange.Printed in quite large type,it glosses over Les' life far too quickly. The main oddity though,is the writers devotion to including,at the bottom of each page, instruction on the pronunciation and meaning of random words from that page.E.G.If one ever wondered what 'forming' meant, then 'putting together' should keep you right.Or,how to pronounce 'venue'? Then' vehn-nu' will solve your problem. There is also a mini dictionary at the end of the book as well as a 'pronunciation key' for difficult words. After having seen this,I could no longer treat the book with any great respect. It does not dwell enough on the important stages of his life.for example, his discovery and subsequent development in the art of multi-tracking,the development of the electric guitar, the accidents which almost stopped him in his tracks. His marriage to Mary Ford, and how their combined talent led to the amazing sound that they made their own.I managed to read this book in just over 45 minutes, thanks to the various 'page fillers'A quirky little book indeed!
