Anthology of Modern Chinese Poetry

I took a class with Michelle Yeh before. Michelle is a very knowledgeable professor, and she knows many of these authors personally. The book includes a very good description of each author.

A very great anthology--excellent scholarship that is subtle and unobtrusive--surprisingly good translation intoelegant English. Like it so much I just bought another copy as gift for my daughter.

Ten years after graduation, (eleven years after buying it for a class), I still think about some of the poems. I take it out, reviewing the poems that inspired me to reach for it, invariably finding others that become favorites.This is a great book for anyone with an interest in modern Chinese poetry. Professor Yeh explains her approach to her translations and gives examples, essentially showing her work.The brief poet bio that begins each section gives a succinct glimpse at the relevant background of each poet.This book is a keeper.
