Wait no more: this e-Bike does what it should
Update 27 Oct 2018:The battery arrived as they promised, and within the scheduled delivery period. It took several hours to charge, then I loaded it into the bike. This is my first electric bike, and I was super impressed by the feeling of using the PAS (Pedal Assist System), as I was able to tackle steep hills without major effort, but enough to stay in the cardio zone according to my Fitbit. This is a great combination, and I took to the park at the weekend to give it a workout. It did everything I wanted it to do. I've increased the review to four stars--the battery was my primary concern. Only one item is still missing from the order (bracket for mudguard), which I will probably have to sort out myself. The other half star is the lack of clear assembly and usage instructions... what's provided is a joke. Furthermore, the description is incorrect in describing a color display -- it's a simple monochrome LCD.After a week of usage, I find the stated range of 31-60 km is wildly optimistic. Using it in PAV level 1 (minimal power assistance) the battery drained from a full charge to nearly empty after a 30 km round-trip commute with very few hills. Don't expect more than 35 km range with this configuration.Downside: this bike is HEAVY. Lifting it is not easy, and folding it is awkward (the battery fell out.) The foldability is very useful, as it fits into the elevator of my apartment building only when folded. This is not a bike for carrying up and down stairs, so it probably won't be suitable for a regular train ride, but with the battery assist, you'll arrive at the office a lot more comfortable.=======I ordered this Lankeleisi folding electric bike with a little trepidation, as it's sometimes a risk dealing with Chinese businesses, especially where you can't evaluate the product before purchase. I was pleasantly surprised that the delivery was faster than expected, arriving only 12 days after placing the order. The bike arrived well-packaged, with plenty of padding and securing ties. As made clear in the product description, some basic assembly is required, so it helps if you're handy with hex keys and other basic tools, which are supplied. On the negative side, the assembly instructions are in Chinese, with pictures that are very difficult to decipher. This is why I dropped one star from the rating. It might be good to hire a local cycle repair person to help you with assembly if you're not technically-minded. The assembly process went well, as most things are logical, and nearly all cables are pre-connected (one pair of connectors needed to be plugged together.)I finished the assembly, then ran into the major problem which led to dropping another star from the rating: the promised battery was missing from the packaging. On the positive side, the seller responded promptly to my feedback, and explained they had a small logistics issue, and that the battery has to be sent separately, using a different logistics company, due to safety regulations associated with air transportation of Lithium-Ion/LiPo batteries. At the present time, the battery hasn't arrived yet, and although I was given a tracking number, there's no indication when it will ship. Once that happens, I will be happy to award them one of the missing stars, and will update this review. In general, they have used reasonable quality components, with a Shimano Altus gearing with Rapidfire Plus gearsticks. The build quality and finish appears to be of good quality, with no apparent defects in the weld or paint job. Front and rear lights, a cheap cable lock and a simple bell are included. The pedals are not folding, which you tend to find on higher-end folding bicycles, but I can always upgrade those separately.I really like the design, and the seat is comfortable, with plenty of adjustment range. The front handle bars however appear not to be height-adjustable, but is suitable for a mountain-bike. Unlike the picture, they also provided front and rear mudguards, however they neglected to include a mounting bracket for the front mudguard, so I might have to fabricate my own. Also a pleasant surprise, they included a low-end bicycle pump.In summary, I hope to submit a more detailed review once the battery has arrived, but am optimistic and so far satisfied with the purchase and the after-sales support.
