Engaging Reading about a Fascinating Actor
I’ve always liked Marlee Matlin and loved the movie Children of a Lesser God. She does a fantastic job of narrating her own story, growing up and making her way to Hollywood! It was really interesting to learn how her first film was made, her explosive relationship with William Hurt and how she feels about being a leader in the Deaf community. Also, I had not recalled her struggles with chemical dependency and making it to sobriety. Worthwhile reading about a strong and inspiring person!

such an Interesting Read
Loved reading her story. She told us about the good and the bad. She has overcome so much and did it with grace.

Not the most well written, but a valuable read
As others have said she clearly didn't use a ghost writer, which I commend her for. However, it is a bit clunky to read and doesn't flow very well. Do note that there are some graphic depictions of sexual abuse in the book. They are a part of Matlin's story and her right to tell in as much detail as she feels comfortable. Overall, it is a good and informative read that gives insight into the Deaf experience.

Great Insight on a Deaf Celebrity
It isn't easy trying to succeed as a Deaf person in the arts. I work in the business/legal side of the theatrical trade, so it's been a different road for me. But I know some amazingly talented actors, writers, dancers, filmmakers, etc that are unfortunately starting out at a disadvantage simply because they're Deaf.I start off my review with this because I feel it's important to point out. Marlee Matlin "made it", but her book clearly shows that it wasn't easy. She has faced opposition from both the hearing and Deaf communities. Yet she has continued to work on her craft. There were a few parts of the book that were a little clunky and didn't flow into beautifully lyrical prose, but that made the book more real to me. As if Ms. Matlin had a hand in writing the book rather than simply leaving it fully to a ghost-writer. That's just my opinion and I'm sticking to it.I really enjoyed that the Kindle edition included all the pictures (albeit at the end of the book rather than interspersed throughout).

it’s a tad long
Many interesting stories but for some reason it felt like she was often the one who was either a victim or was an amazing heroine. I would have liked more self reflection on events and not just stories about other stars.

Wow!
Someone who is studying American Sign Language, I wanted to buy this book and I have to say I’m definitely not disappointed! To read what Marlee Matlin has been through, and become an Award winning actress in spite of everything, this book is an absolute must read!

Pages stuck together but was easily enough to separate.
Scuff marks and pages stuck together. Definitely wasn’t “new” but... it’s about Marlee that I bought this so it’s fine. But just remember to those buying. It may say new but it probably isn’t... and it’s not protected much in the packaging.

Good as New?????
So i bought this book in good faith that it would be "good as new" but when i received the book it was dirty and grubby looking. so i was a little disappointed. but the book itself is a great read! i had done some research on Marlee myself as a project for college and i must say i got a little hooked. All in all a really amazing book that raises awareness about Deaf issuses to the hearing world! :D

a fantastic book!!
A fantastic and inspiring book I would recommend it. Shows you that just because you are famous doesn't mean you have had a perfect life and it is possible to move on no matter what has happened in the past.
