Grew back my mom's hair beautifully.
My mom has type 4b or c or z hair, whatever you want to call it. If you know the Andre Walker system, you know what I mean. It is a beautiful hair type but very fragile. She is 82 years years and last summer, had hardly any hair left in the front--not just the roots but the whole front of her head up to her ears had maybe 1/2 inch or less of hair remaining. In the back, she had some hair, but it was ragged and all different lengths and felt rough. She thought she was going to have to wear a TWA forever, like many of her friends her age who have basically jsut given up on ever having hair and shaved it off. But she did not want to do this. Though she is an older lady, she is very feminine and does not like her looks with this 'boy' type hairstyle.Anyway, to make a long story short, I sent her a bottle of this Jamaican black castor oil and she started massaging her hair and scalp with it. I also made sure that she started sleeping on a satin pillowcase and wearing a satin cap, washing with her remaining hair in braids and using Shea moisture shampoo only on her scalp. I told her to be very low manipulation and she wore a wig to cover up her damaged hair and give it a rest. I taught her to finger comb only and also to use a little protein on her ends about once a month, after she washed. (Joico K-pak). Lo and behold! She lives in Florida and when I returned to visit her, barely 7 months later, her hair had grown so much! the very short patches had grown a lot, the bald patches had filled in and the back had grown BELOW HER SHOULDERS. My mother has never had hair below her shoulders in her life (this is difficult for many type 4b people as this hair type cannot take any abuse at all. It was an unbelievable change. My mother is so happy. She continues to use this product as her scalp massage and moisturizer and her hair is not only growing like a weed but feels very fluffly, soft and not greasy at all. Her goal is to grow her hair enough so that she can wear her natural hair in a bun and not have to wear a wig anymore and it looks like she will make this goal very soon. We are both very happy.P.S I have type 3c hair which is a lot stronger than my mom's (my dad was mixed-race and I got his hair type). I have never had balding or breakage problems the way she does, but I find that this product works well for me, too. I massage a little on my scalp mixed with some peppermint essential oil (few drops) and burdock root oil (which I also bought on Amazon.com) every night and I don't have the itching problems I used to have sometimes before. I think it makes my hair feel a bit softer (I have low porosity hair that tend to be dry) and I like it for me, too.

Excellent, and Effective, Product
I looked upon this with a jaundiced eye. It seems too easy and kind of inconvenient, but with the preponderance of positive accounts I went ahead and ordered some.In short, it works. Completely, and quickly.Obviously we all have different reasons for hair loss/thinning, but mine is a crazy mixture of hormones and severe illness. I wasn't sure that mere castor oil could help.1) Oil:It is a viscous, sticky, highly odorous oil that reminds me honey. The scent is very similar to toasted sesame oil used in Chinese cuisine. There is no way to disguise it, so plan on staying home while using it. I don't hate it, but I would not want to wear it out of the house.2) Application:I didn't want to wear this stinky, sticky stuff every day so I applied it undiluted twice a week, massaging it into my scalp only (some accounts have folks having issues with the oil damaging the ends of their hair, or of being difficult to wash out, so I avoided putting it directly onto the ends) and wrapped my head in an old T-shirt and slept in it. I used a large squeeze bottle (think ketchup or mustard container) that I got from Amazon. That made it really easy to control. Some folks advocate thinning with other oils, but I like that this stuff kind of stays put and gives me time to work it in rather than running down my face and neck.Double washing my hair the next day removed the oil and leaves my fine, straight hair feeling basically normal.I also put a little on my brows and eyelashes. Why not, right?3) Result:After a single month I have a fresh crop of tiny baby hairs, between a quarter and a half an inch long. I've been obsessively monitoring my hairline for about a year now and I can promise you that these are new hairs in thinned areas. My once-prominent widow's peak had been the first casualty of the original hair loss and I'll be darned if it isn't coming back. I'm delighted! My eyelashes also appear to be getting thicker. I know this because many seem to be doubling up in coming out of each follicle. I think that it has a negative impact on my makeup though as, even after careful cleansing, there is still a residue of sorts that causes my eyeliner and eye shadow to slip off and crease. Not a big deal for me- I just remove and reapply- but might be an issue for some.A small bald patch in my brow is filling in and has become invisible. I have black brows and dead white skin, so the contrast is noticeable and the repair welcome. One strange benefit is that my eyebrows, even after washing, seem to hold their shape better and longer, kind of like I've used some of that brow gel. Odd, but I'll take it.4) Opinion:Black Castor Oil works well and it works quickly, is affordable and effective. I am pleasantly surprised. My next step is to try the un-roasted castor oil because with this smell I can't see ever using this around anyone else and I definitely plan on keeping this in my beauty regime.
