Freddy and the Popinjay (Freddy the Pig) Paperback – June 30, 2011

I remember Freddy the Pig from sixty years ago, and have acquired some of the books over the years, and re-read them during the pandemic. Like great children's books they are actually better now than they were back then, I rank them with Alice in Wonderland and Winnie the Pooh as classics.

Too early to tell, but more Freddy delights according to Ingrid Askew, great granddaughter. I was introduced to Freddy the Detective in 1932 at age 5 in Socorro, NewMexico and I still have my original copy. My great granddaaughter will be collecting all the Freddy books. She is well on her way with Popinjay and Mr. Camphor, having already collected the earlier books starting with Florida(First Adventure) 1949.Wonderful reading in contrast to our robust technological age.Great graandpa Ernie

These nonsensical books are great fun and healthy diversion for all from 9 to 99 years old. It is good to find somewhere that they are available. Our ninety nine year old great grandmother is reading it aloud and really enjoying it, as are all of us.

An excellent story that showes Freddy's helpful side as he aids a near sighted bird while in trroble himself.

We have purchased several of the Freddy the Pig books through Amazon. My kids love the humorous stories of the delightful animal characters.

I don't recall reading Popinjay when I first discovered Freddy back in 1960 (or thereabouts), but I've just read the new Overlook Press 2001 reprint. This story features the familiar, lovable Freddy characters--and a few new ones--portraying a message that we all need to remember these days: Don't judge people by appearances.

I read the Freddy the Pig books aloud to my kids at night. We usually read a chapter after reading an assortment of picture books. We all love these books! I don't know why I had never heard of them before we picked up the first one, but they should be more widely read. We have loved every one of them! I often recommend them to other parents and hope they and their children enjoy them as much as we do.
