Suicide Squad Vol. 4: Discipline and Punish (The New 52)

Love the choice of villians and the action!
Due to the new movie that is out (which I liked), the Suicide Squad past volumes are becoming very popular. This is one of the better runs and I am catching up on them all. Almost non-stop action. Becoming more of a Mission Impossible type scenarios then the Dirty Dozen. Either way I enjoyed the stories and the art. Suicide Squad is becoming one of my favorite titles to read. They can do almost anything they want. Make the missions truly a Suicide attempt, change the cast and so on. But I do suspect that Harley will be featured in almost every iteration of the Suicide Squad for quite a while. I think DC is giving her the Wolverine treatment (where Wolverine was featured in all the X-Men books center stage and then guest stared in almost every other Marvel title).

Nice read after another DC overhaul.
The suicide is one of the few comics that has stayed consistent after yet another re-vamp from the DC universe. Deadshot is still Deadshot and his character is comfortably the same. Amanda Waller is still the devil you know and the rest of the character work to a greater or lesser degree. One of the better comics out there.

New direction for Squad
The aftermath of the last book explains why people in this squad do not stay dead. Waller keeps reviving them over and over again. Think if they get blown up by nano bombs they stay dead. James Gordon the serial killer is asked to join and be a consultant on Squad. He is smart but he just stalks and kills women. He seems to like Waller. Harley plans a coup with Deadshot to get them relased after they do a few more missions. Deadshot takes out Unkown Solider but Gordon takes him out. The mission they have is not all that. That is the weak part of the volume. 2 one shot issues of Deadshot and Harley after they leave the Squad but are asked and she pays Deadshot to come back. Thie next volume crosseses over with Forever Evil storyline. Has some cool stuff in this volume

but still animated and easy to read
My boys are into comic books and these are the hottest thing right now. A little thicker than a typical comic book, but still animated and easy to read. Same characters as in the movie, great story lines and fun for the kids.

DC's Dirty Dozen story
The book hasn't been quite as strong ever since Glass left the series, but never the less it's still been enjoyable. My only complaint with this series is the abrupt changes in artist/art style that happen from time to time because it tends to be annoyingly poorer in quality. If you like anything involving expendable team-ups then I recommend this book because suicide squad is DC's Dirty Dozen/Inglorious Basterds.

Isn't a very deep storyline
This volume was a little hard to follow and wasnt super deep. That doesn't make it bad though. Still really good story and focusing on problems not only the team face but now Waller does too

So good
Suicide Squad is such a great series. This collection allows the squad to go free but shortly after Waller is attacked and is in need of her old team...

Still riveting
The stories keep getting better and I absolutely love the Harley and Deashot relationship. It's nice to have so many layers added to two characters who I thought were already so well devoloped.

consistently excellent
This has to been one of the best and most consistent of the New 52 books. Playing off the back of Sinister Six ( probably the most consistent book pre New 52) the characters are developing nicely and the storylines are just outrageously anarchic.Ales Kot has grasped the raison d'etre of the series and has produced some of the best individual issues the series has seen. The interaction between the characters is very well handled. Unlike the previous reviewer I found the second half of the book a distraction from the tone set and hope that volume 5 goes back to looking at the Squad as a team- where the individual characters interact- which is where the spirit of the series flows from.

Harley, NO!!!
Much, MUCH better than the yawn-fest that was the latter end of the Third Volume. There is a very controversial Harley Quinn chapter that I am sure has readers torn.Minor complaint: the last two chapters seem to be in the wrong order chronologically, and I am struggling to find a reason why this may have been done intentionally. I feel like from a writing standpoint, the issues work better chronologically, but it's no big deal.

Big build up
The first half of this book is just another squad mission establishing the new order. My favourite section starts with Harley as they prepare for the next big event where the hero's are gone. She is such a compelling character that she can carry the squad. I am less invested in deadshot but liked the way he was handled here, it gave me a new appreciation for him and I look forward to where this goes.

Best team-up ever
While I am enjoying the Justice League run on New 52, the Suicide Squad continues to kick its ass all over the page. Brilliantly draw, hilarious characters, tons of action and lashings of violence and betrayal. Just gets better every volume.
