This thing is SO MUCH FUN! Don't know why others are complaining about 3D effect! A+
PROS: THIS THING IS SO MUCH FUN! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!We've had it hooked up between a Sony BD 3D player and a 52in. 2D LG Plasma for 2 days now and I T W O R K S!What we've learned so far:1. 2D to 3D conversion gives a LOT of depth perception. The kids and I watched Gojira (1954) Friday night (2/28) and even for an older film it was neat. When Godzilla tore down the power lines; sparks seemed to fly off the screen, tank fire flashed out at us and Godzilla's atomic breath ignited flames that seemed to lash out at us and building debris rolling across the screen with such depth.1a. I watched Pink Floyd: The Wall in 2 to 3 conversion and the surreal animations had so much depth to them, I felt like I might freak out again for the first time in over 20 years! and the explosion of the Wall at the end? Debris seemed to hit the screen( I thought at one moment to check the screen for damage, lol.) 1b. Beavis and Butthead do America is hiiarious in the conversion. I used it to demo animation when I first hooked up. Beavis and Butthead almost come out at ya! 1c. Star Wars: A New Hope BD(I'm sure you want to know.) The opening scene with the Tantive IV and the Star Destroyer? COOL! The firefight with stormtroopers? Laser bolts are intense and trying to pop out of the screen at you! Depth, depth, DEPTH! is the key and so cool!2. If you have movies that were made or released in theatres in 3D but are 2D on DVD/BD; the 3D effects are better with these movies in the 2D to 3D conversion then standard flat movies are. I sampled the 2D version of the 2009 release of Friday the 13th Part III; and it was way BETTER than the inferior blue/red 3D disc (wonder what the BD looks like). PIRAHNA looked really great too! I assume it has something to do with foreground/background object placement used in these movies. They look a little funny in the flat format but really POP with the 2D to 3D conversion.3. We've sampled several 3D demos and trailers on VUDU and SONY 3D Experience on the 3D Blu Ray players internet apps and so far: Life of Pi, Tron: Legacy, Toy Story 3, even the converted Jurassic Park and Finding Nemo were dazzling! We also watched an amazing video of a polar bear swimming in a zoo and it looked like the only thing keeping him from us was the glass of his tank! We haven't gotten any 3D Blu Ray discs yet; but we WILL!4. We don't have a PS 3 or and XBOX 360 but we did sample some gaming videos in 2 to 3D on YouTube and they looked good! We also don't know about 3D TV broadcast as we don't have cable or satellite. We just watch what we want on Netflix(which works) and internet streams from our PC and BD player (which we're still setting up).So far the conclusion is: This thing DOES what it's advertised to do: It works! The blue/amber glasses even seem to give effect to blue/yellow videos on the internet on our PC.4 minor cons:1. It was a little difficult to get started (this was my fault) and adjusted (unit and tv fault).2. You have to leave it on to bypass for 2D viewing ALL the time unless you want to get a seperate player to watch 2D content, or pull the HDMI from the unit and connect it to the T.V. (I wonder if there's some kind of splitter for this issue).3. It seems to have some issue with format "handshaking" between internet viewing and DVD/BD viewing and we've had to reboot the unit a few times as we get an "Invalid Format" message before we reboot. This is the BIGGEST issue we've had.4. The remote is too small and tempremental (repeat button pressing to get it to function, and I wonder if its just a battery issue) and a little difficult to use and I am TERRIFIED of losing it.BOTTOM LINE: THIS THING WORKS! I think alot of it is subjective. But if it works for my 2 kids, myself and my fiancee who has vision issues; I think it will work for most people then as most 3D IS subjective and I've heard people at movie theatres say that it does or doesn't work for themA few tips:1.I've used anaglyph blue/red and green/purple 3D conversion software for a couple of years(we'll be experimenting withTAB and SBS 3D next) and they were ok but mostly caused eye strain and that weird effect after you take them off with seeing the colors used on the glasses. This unit barely does that and the glasses are very comfy on our faces. We all wear glasses and the provided glasses fit perfectly over them.2. Be sure to download the upgrade and upload it to the unit before setting up. You MUST have a flash drive to do this. We tried using a USB cable from the PC to the unit and it does NOT work! The upgrade helps with set up and provides an additional unit adjustment for brightness and 3D intensity (we have it set on 3D Max).3. Tweak, tweak, TWEAK your settings. DVD/BD player, TV and unit settings. Especially brightness, contrast, and color. Eventually you will find the PERFECT setting. This is of course subjective. Try to nearly max out the brightness on the unit settings, Vivid settings on your connected device(s) and try to raise your brightness level on your tv to a level where its not blinding you or washing everyone out. There WILL be a noticeable difference in the brightness when you switch on the unit for 3D viewing; This IS normal and will not be as noticed once you put on the glasses. Raising your color up a few notches helps as well and it will compensate for the loss that people complain about. I STILL have tweaking to do, but it's pretty darn good where its at right now.4. And finally. as I mentioned earlier; 3D IS subjective; not everyone sees the same things. My lady has vision issues, so she didn't see all the things that the kids and I saw; but she saw a lot. Relax your eyes! Don't strain to see 3D! Just relax your eyes. It'll come to you and you'll be pleasantly suprised by what happens with this fun little toy. This is a GREAT alternative to spending an arm and a leg for a 3D TV for yourself or the kids. I fully intend to buy a back up unit in case anything happens to this one.An A+ product! Absolute fun for you and your family!

great for real 3d content... except for the loss of color
I looked at this product for some time before deciding to purchase it. I will start my review by discussing the glasses. Mine came with a pair with black frames and a pair with blue frames. They seemed to be fairly durable. The downside was that they were obviously meant for someone with a larger head. Admittedly my head is a bit larger than most so keep that in mind. That being said the glasses had enough give in them that they fit my head. They were a bit uncomfortable but you get used to it and it wasn't too bad. Also of note is that I wear glasses and the provided glasses fit well around my glasses. People said that the glasses have good side shields to eliminate outside light, although they didn't work that well for me because of my existing glasses. This wasn't an issue since I was watching in a dark room.Setup was very easy. The instructions tell you to download a firmware update however the website given on the instructions is not correct. If you google 3d wizard firmware update you will find it. The file is very small. You put it on a jump drive and then just plug it into the USB port on the side of the device. It takes less than 30 seconds and it's done. The box itself has a nice simplistic yet functional layout. The front has two buttons (mode change and input change) as well as several LEDs. The meaning of the LEDs isn't obvious since they aren't labeled although the manual specifies their meaning. They are supposed to show you that you have power and what mode it is in. Other than that the front has the logo but is otherwise nice and attractive. The left side of the unit has a USB port that you can only use to update the firmware (it is labeled as a service port). The back has the power point, a power switch, a HDMI output, and then two HDMI outputs. The remote is similarly simple and useful. There are the traditional arrow buttons, a 2d/3d button, a menu button, and an input toggle button. I didn't find myself using the menu or input buttons often since I was using the output from my receiver. I did seem to occasionally have problems with the remote not responding.I started by playing call of duty black ops on my xbox 360 with the 3d turned on. I had to push the 2d/3d button on the remote or front of box to switch from 2d mode to 3d side by side mode. The 3d looking exactly like it does on my buddies TV who has a 3d tv with two differences that I'll discuss later. There was a substantial change in brightness as was expected. Even at the lower light levels it was okay. I turned up the brightness on the 3d wizard but it didn't seem to do anything. I could have upped the brightness on my TV, however it didn't bother me enough to change it. I then switched black ops back to 2d mode and switched the wizard to the 2d to 3d upconvert mode for comparison. I couldn't even tell that it was working (more on this later).I then tried a non-3d blu ray with the upconvert on. Again it didn't appear to have any effect (again, I will discuss this later). I then borrowed a friends 3d blu ray player and turned on John Carter in 3d. The 3d effect was very good just as it had been for the xbox. They appeared exactly as they did on my buddy's TV with the following two esceptions. I noticed that most of the color looked washed out. This single thing is what caused this to be a deal breaker for me. All of the colors look very black and white. The aliens are supposed to be a dusty green color however they basically looked like a shade of grey with a hint of color. Even items with lots of color didn't look as vivid as the should. I'm guessing the colors have to become more grey so that the colored lenses of the gasses don't mess up 3d effect and block out certain colors that are part of the movie. The second problem was that some of the images had a strange look about them. It is hard to describe. I'm sure it is an artifact of the technology and the glasses. My wife said that the picture was such that she wouldn't watch it. I didn't mind it too bad, but I'm a fan of 3d.After watching for a while I tried watching John Carter with the 2d blu ray and upconvert it. I must have missed the warning that the box gave me earlier saying it cannot upconvert a 1080p input signal. I changed my receiver settings to output at 1080i and then the upconvert worked. The upconvert didn't work as well as I had hoped. I have seen upconvert on various TVs, all of which were marginal at best. This upconverter worked less good than others I had seen. Unfortunately the 3d blu ray player I was borrowing didn't have a 2d to 3d upconversion because it would have been interesting to see how the 3d wizard looked displaying an upconverted signal from a different unit (have the blu ray player upconvert instead of the 3d wizard). Overall the upconversion added very little and it dimmed the colors on the screen, so I wouldn't recommend using the upconvert. I did not try it on DVD since my previous experience showed that the upconversion of DVDs is far worse than that of blu rays, which as previously mentioned was less than adequate for this unit.At the end of my experimentation I took off the glasses and was switching between the 2d pass-through and the 2d to 3d upconvert modes. The change in the brilliance of the color was very noticable. This issue was so prevalent that it was a deal breaker for me and I returned it. I contemplated giving 2 stars, however the device worked very well with true 3d content except for the loss of color. So bottom line... this unit is fantastic if you are going to feed it a true 3d signal (no upconvert) and you don't mind loosing a chunk of the color and a few weird side effects of the technology. If the color issue wasn't there I would have kept the unit.

I want my money back in 3D
Waste of money, effort and excitement. All I got was double vision and sore eyeballs from this pile of waste. Not even close to acceptable 3D! If you like double vision and pain in your eyeballs, then buy this product.I bought this worthless box of false entertainment because I don't own a 3DTV. Don't waste your money! It is not a good substitute for a 3DTV at all. I'd rather get punched in the face then to use this lousy 3D wizard again. You know how the box shows a car jumping out of the tv? not even close to what you get! you get two cars; one blue, one red overlapping each other and both are blurry. This product would be great for teenagers who want to know what it looks and feels like to be drunk...simply put on the bug-eyed red and blue sunglasses and turn on the "wizard" and you'll be ready to stumble and puke in no time! Also, you'll be soo angry at this thing within seconds that you'll want to punch something. So there you go...it's a DUI simulator for teens. The company even states not to expect a car jumping out of your tv....but they put the picture on the box anyways to give you the impression that you'll get just that. The only thing you get is dissapointed and mad. Oh, and the remote conrol.....first remote I have ever used where I have to angle the remote to the sky while sitting 2 feet in front of the device to get it to respond. The function is choppy at best. Its best to be used as a throwing object towards the trash can.
