Works as advertised. If you're pounding with flat end, side of the palm hits the pointy sided end. The plastic ring prevents damage but not discomfort.

Woah! When I first got my meat tenderizer I could not believe the weight of it?! It's seriously so heavy, which because of its purpose works perfectly. I was super excited to try this out. This is the first time I try a tenderizer like this. Not only the reversible head but also the shape and form it's supposed to be used in. Most of my past tenderizers had been hammer/mallet style. Whacking at my meat hoping to get it and not my counter or hand haha. So I really love the shape and use of this tenderizer. It's nice and shiny looking. Smooth and easy to clean. Super easy to grip. Choose the side you want to use, smooth for pounding, spikes for tenderizing. Once you've chosen grip it and go at it. In an up and down motion. The tenderizer is heavy that it does most of the work itself. Just grip nicely. And be safe. You'l love it. Once you're done the head screws off easily (just like is screws off to switch sides between the smooth and the spikes) to clean up. This is the best tool for making veal or chicken flat. And also or tenderizing meats. Love it! It's heavy and that's e a toy what I needed.

Have only had it for a week and used it once to flatten a chicken breast. It worked well and was gentle with my arthritic wrists.

This meat tenderizer is by far the best meat tenderizer that I have owned. The last tenderizer I owned was a beat up old hammer type tenderizer I got for a dollar at a garage sale my neighbors across the street were having before the retired to Florida. This tenderizer is awesome, beats that one hands down. First off, it has a nice shiny polished stainless steel finish. And who doesn't like shiny things? I know I sure do. Second, it's heavy, which is excellent for pounding meat with minimal effort. I've used this pounder for pork and chicken so far and it takes half the time to tenderize the meat than it did with my old tenderizer. And, it has a reversible head that screws off easily so you can use the flat side to smash up things like crackers for breading chicken fried steaks and the like. Just loosen it a little bit and give the head a spin and it spins itself right off!! Flip it over and spin it right back on! Easy!! This meat tenderizer is worth the extra cash.
