It's a very good source of information if you are considering hiking the AT. It's filled will all kinds of useful information, but mostly data so not all of the information you need if you're a newbie like my husband. I bought several different books which I found by reading the reviews that pointed me in the right direction to choosing the ones that would help my husband with what he would need on the AT. It's not wilderness hiking and not exactly camping either and since it's walking all the way.. either doing just a section or the going the whole way it is necessary to travel lightly and to bring only the things that are necessary and nothing that isn't. It's just not as simple as we first thought. But this book is a good start. I recommend it.

Fantastic information
excellent book and maps. The book was updated in 2014 so the trail should be really close to where the map says it should be.Definitely worth getting if you can read contour lines and you know where north, south, east, and west are from your current position. Also definitely worth getting if you want to know more than just if the next section of trail is up, down, or level. For example, if you find that you are going southwest when you are northbound on the AT, you may actually be going in the right direction (the trail does tend to turn back on itself). Also, if you want to know what the peaks, valleys, rivers, and towns are in the distance, you can see what they are on the map.

Great Resource
Excellent book for anyone planning multiple day trips or even single day trips on the Appalachian Trail. All of the mileages were spot on and everything else were accurate. Some of the water sources were dry that I encountered but that has more to do with timing than anything. If you buy the section maps of the Appalachian Trail most of this information is included but this book includes the distances for the whole trail while each map only includes the information pertinent to that map.I would recommend this to anyone hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Very basic guide
I used this guide for about 50 miles before I upgraded to AWOL's guide. This guide provides the most basic information about the trail. It's organized North-to-south, which was surprising to me. It's missing road crossings, which are pretty important in my opinion. That's a big part of while I upgraded to the AWOL guide. It's worth nothing that most of the information in this guide is available for free online, but the price of this book is similar to what it would cost to print it yourself.

An AT Must Have
If you are going to hike the AT you MUST buy this book..I used mine as a reference so much during my first two weeks of planning that the spine starred to break apart. Other than that i would have given it 5 stars.

Good but Excel sheet might be better
Seems like a good book to have along the trip with point to point mileage and state to state. I will likely take this with me on the trail. I'm sure someone has put this information in a spread sheet and that would be more useful to print out and to provide to family members can approximate where you may be along the trail.
