Wish I hadn't spent the money on it :(
I guess, with a title like that, I expected there to be more dating in this book. But there wasn't. The first 20%ish was their relationship during the summer and you think it's going to be this super-cute love story. And then Emme turns into this super whiny, jealous girlfriend. Yes, in her defense, Brendon's slutty ex, Lauren is hanging on him ALL the time. But he doesn't really do anything to encourage her. It seems like the middle of the book, they are having argument after argument (most of them started by Emme and her insecurities). Then there's the grandparents. Emme's grandmother has a stroke and goes downhill really fast and her grandpa has dementia. Most of the middle of the book is about this and, as someone who has dealt with these issues very close to home, I did not like that at all. I will go so far as to say it ruined the book (with how close to home it hit).Characters - I don't know if I really liked any of the characters at all. Certainly not Emme. And Margeaux...the story could have done without her. Any time Emme tried to act like her to make Brendon jealous, I cringed. There was a positive note to the book...about the last 5 pages. It has a happy ending but the ending is not worth reading the rest of the book.Disclaimer - I have dementia in someone close to me so, while this book hit me very wrong, these are my opinions and aren't necessarily going to be the same for anyone else.

the life and times of a teenager
Hager has a way of writing that takes me back to my insecure teenage years and allows me to experience the joys, the anxieties, and the growth all over again. Emme doesn't expect to start dating the high school "It" guy, but she does. After being cheated on in the past, she has some major trust issues to deal with and they really get in the way of her being fully invested in this new relationship. The drama and mind games are alive and well with this novel!I was expecting the typical travel log of a high school sophomore--her feelings, her experiences, her relationships--but there was a heavier undercurrent flowing throughout. Emme isn't just navigating the social scene, but she's dealing with a lot of difficult family issues as well, which often spill over into her social life. I would have loved more showing, rather than telling...getting a more emotional engagement, but I did enjoy the journey and couldn't help but to feel bad for poor Emme, dealing with so much.Friends and romance can be hard at this age, and both were portrayed that way (although I secretly wish it could be all rainbows and warm fuzzies). It was sad to see how fickle some of the characters were. And the lack of communication--we won't go there. **One little side note** I have two kids who are in high school now and the way the characters in this story interact does NOT feel realistic at all. My kids won't email and call their friends like these characters did (and if a friend doesn't answer their cell? No way will they call the landline, if anyone even still has those anymore)--it's all about Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, texting. This could have worked 20 years ago, but it's not accurate for today's teens.I'm not really into horoscopes, numerology, crystals, vegan, etc, and although each of these play an important role in Emme's life, it wasn't too overwhelming. All in all, I did get to experience a little blast to the past and had a nice time watching the progress that was made through the course of the book.Content: mild romance (kissing, talk of hooking up; there is one matter-of-fact scene of talking about sleeping with someone); mild religious elements.

A wonderful book from a fantastic author
I fell in love with this book as soon as I started reading it! The characters are so well written and Krysten has a way of really getting into their heads and sharing their inner thoughts and feelings. There are a lot of really funny parts, as well as a lot of emotion. You really feel like you're reading about people you know and you get so invested you can't put it down. I love how easy it was to identify with these characters and feel like they're going through the same things we all went through at that age. It's adorable and hilarious and serious and silly all at once.

Interesting story
The story is a cute love story between teenagers, but it's not just about that. Hager has brought in some back story and other plot points, which give the story some depth. Now, it does have that teenage angst and jealousy, and Emme reacts, sometimes poorly but she's a teenager, so she acts as if she is one. The characters have depth and also remind us (who are no longer teens) that what a teen does and what an adult does are two different things, and that’s what makes this a good story. It was an enjoyable read.

I loved it!
It has been a long time since I read a YA book. I thought I was over teenage drama, but this book intrigued me. So, I've read it and I loved it. It is really good, I liked the characters and the story.Emme is a normal teenage girl who ends up dating the 'It guy'. Apparently, it isn't easy, she can't understand all the attention he gets, especially from his ex-girlfriend. And he doesn't understand why Emme is always so dramatic about things. Combine this drama with everything that is going on Emme's home life and you get a perfect YA fiction. It's an interesting novel and quite enjoyed reading it.

Dating the It Guy
This was about two high school kids who end up being sweethearts. The trials of friends and family along with ex's. It was a whimsical story line. New Age with numerology and zodiac signs thrown into the mix.

Okay
I usually take away stars for language and sex. This had neither of those. It was a clean read. However, I didn't particularly love this book. It jumped back and forth she is upset with him then not. Way too much! I didn't really love either main character. They were both fickle and I didn't love that he'd slept with his previous ex. Maybe teenagers are like this these days, heaven forbid.
