Needs better instructions and online tutorial
Needs better instructions and online tutorial. Too sophisticated for the average homeowner or gardener. But I am glad I bought it and someday I hope to understand how to use it.

There's a lot more to it than is explained in the description
I am the first to review this product. As a public service, I am typing the directions as described in the user's manuals, for the soil preparation necessary before using this probe to test soil pH and fertility. How to use your meter to measure pH" 1) Remove the top 2 " of the surface soil. Break up and crumble the soil underneath to a depth of 5". Remove any stones or organic debris such as leaves and twigs because they can affect the final result.2) Thoroughly wet the soil with water (ideally rain or distilled water) to a mud consistency. 3) Slide the switch all the way up 4) Wet probes. Clean thoroughly with the special cleaning pad provided. 5) Insert probes into soil up to plastic base. 6)Wait one minute and take reading. 7)Wipe the probes clean and dry. 8)If you are going to take another test, begin at #1. (Fertility measurement is similar). Then the following info: "Advice on preparation of soil sample"In order to obtain an even more accurate result with your unit, the following procedure may be adapted.Take the sample of soil to be tested from the ground and remove stones and organic debris. Prepare the sample by crumbling the soil into small particles. Measure two cups of soil from the prepared sample. Fill a clean glass or plastic container with two cups of distilled or de-ionized water and add the measured soil sample. Ensure the soil and water are thoroughly mixed and compact the sample firmly. Drain off any excess water. Proceed to step 3 of "How to use your meter to measure pH".For me as a professional gardener, that takes way too much time for me to use it. I gave it two stars because for me it is 1 star, but I can't say it doesn't work because I didn't try it. It is going back. But, I wouldn't have ordered it to begin with if I had read the directions I gave you. So, now you can make a better informed decision regarding this meter

Excellant soil tester
Excellent soil test. I didn't know why my yard looked so paltry until we tested the soil and corrected the pH problems.

Not up to snuff
I needed a decent PH meter for my acid loving plants. Put in the soil and there was no movement stayed about 7. Tried other potted plants and got the same result. Tested meter with Vinegar it took five minutes to register a ph of 4 not sure vinegar is 4 or or maybe lower but at least it moved.Rinsed cleaned and made solution of baking soda and water the meter should have shown alkaline condition but instead dipped again to a acid condition.Something is wrong, maybe its just the one I received fortunately Amazon refunded my purchase.
