Nice upgrade for $40
What can I say, I've been using Rockford Fosgate stuff since somewhere around 1988-89. They've always made great speakers and amplifiers and these are no different. It's been quite a while since I purchased any kind of upgrade for a factory stereo and these did exactly what I needed them to do. I've had my 2003 Toyota Tundra Access Cab for 3 years and have always just run the factory speakers because they sounded decent enough. I decided to upgrade just the rear to see how good it would sound with the idea of maybe adding more in the future. These seemed like a good basis of a fairly modest system where I just fill all the factory locations with decent speakers and run every thing off the factory amp. Nothing too complicated and I'm not entering in to any audio competitions anytime soon, so I don't need to go all in. I decided on the 3-way coaxial 6.5" over the 2-way because I wanted the extra mid-range coming from the rear of the truck. As far as what Amazon recommends for a 2003 Tundra in the rear door locations, get the 6.75" and not the 6.5" like I did. I'm okay with my decision to have gone with the 6.5" but three scree holes match up with the factory locations and one has to be screwed in on the exterior of the speaker's metal rim. It's okay for me, I managed to deal with it accordingly. The 6.75" is the same speaker just in a little bit larger circular mounting ring to give you a few more options. This should have been my choice, but, again, I am perfectly happy with the 3-Way over the 2-Way. I also used fiber fill to take up space inside the door panel. Specs call for .46 cubic feet of VAS. There must be at least a solid 2+ cubic feet in a Tundra rear door. They're cavernous with no real obstructions, just an internal support/structure rail. I filled the void and it definitely helped keep those cones under control at higher volumes. These are also 4 Ohm compared to the factory 6 Ohm speakers. That means they're seeing a little more power than what the others were. I had discovered that the left rear factory speaker was blown and I had hoped it wasn't an amp channel. Turns out it *was* a blown factory speaker and the difference is incredible. I was thinking of getting sub for under the seat but I'm seriously considering not doing that now. Sound dampening in the doors along with two fresh poly 6.5 cones provides more than enough low end in a truck cab for an aging car audio enthusiast like me. It makes me want to invest in the two way component system for the doors, swap those out and call it good. Nice job, Rockford, for providing an affordable, quality upgrade option. Highly recommended and would buy again!

Works so well I bought 'em again
So, just to be clear, these are a replacement for OEM - they are not a very significant improvement although they are an improvement for sure.First of all, what a deal for 3-way component speakers. While the trade-off is lower wattage, there are few scenarios in which you'd need speakers that can handle more within a car. Of course, that doesn't stop people from busting their eardrums out, but hey.In terms of audio quality, it's perfectly sufficient in comparison to OEM. While I am an audio enthusiast, and while they're a far cry from perfect, I was shocked at how well they worked for the price. At high levels there was only mild interference, it hit the various low/mid/high fairly accurately compared to my benchmark of a ATH-M50 being hardware that has perfect balance. Treble was of course, the only exception as it did get a little grating with some of the challenging high sounds played loudly such as violins and similar sounds, but for someone who doesn't have tinnitus, it's of little concern for me.I initially got my first pair to replace the first two door speakers on my Saturn Ion because...well if you don't have fancy trim they drop the cheapest things that won't break until it's out of warranty. To their credit, they never did die completely, but being a one-way speaker they were always particularly bad at accurately reproducing bass and treble and were decent on mids. While the mids only got slightly better when I replaced OEM, there was a good deal of improvement in the lows and highs, which while expected of a 3-way component speaker, the thing unexpected was that it delivered this for only $20 per speaker. So, over a year later, I'm replacing the two rear speakers as well. I considered buying more expensive ones now that I have more cash on hand, but these worked so perfectly that I didn't bother.

Good speakers for the price.
Work great, good decent sound with Planet Audio double DIN unit's built in amp. Used for the rear doors in a 2008 Toyota Highlander.

This review is for the Rockford Fosgate R165X3 Prime
You get what you pay for! These are a huge improvement over the stock speakers!!! For all those saying theirs blew??? The are entry level speakers and Will Blow if you over drive them!!! You have to match the speakers to the amp!!! Also a quality signal is Paramount a distorted signal will do just as much damage! Cheap radio, Cheap Amp = Cheap sound!!! The weakest link in your system will well determine the sound you get!!! You can buy a Ferrari but if you put cheap gas and oil in it what do you think will happen? "No power and engine damage!" Don't cut these down because you are trying to pump 1000 watts of dirty sound Into them!!! Even if you only have a 50 watt amp and it's putting out garbage sound it will damage them!!! I have a Kenwood headunit that's a little under Powered for these and will baby them until I get a good clean 4 channel amp I know my sound will improve once I do this! I have installed systems in cars as far back as 1984! Sure times have changed but one thing hasn't YOU CAN'T TURN GARBAGE INTO GOLD don't expect miracle's!!! Also if your doors are vibrating this will not hurt your speakers but will ruin the sound get sound mats to deaden the sound it will improve your listing experience!!! I'm not a base head!!! I enjoy classic rock like Floyd etc the music is complex and needs to be balanced, I could go on with all that can go wrong, If you just want to be heard from 5 miles away and the quality of sound is a after thought this is not for you!
