Excellent choice for everyday photographs.
Kodak Tri-X 400 is my go-to film for all-purpose photographic needs. I am a professional photographer with about 12 years of working experience, as a reference, and I personally shoot on a Nikon FG camera when I don't shoot digitally. This film is a professional-grade medium. It supports pushing and pulling when processing in the darkroom, allowing for more advanced control over highlights and shadows along with control over the zone system. This film is also relatively easy to manage after archiving, as its plastic surface behind the emulsion seems sturdier than other films I have used from Kodak. That being said, if you need less apparent grain on your images, try using any of Kodaks ASA 100 or 200 films. The grain size is somewhat larger than usual compared to other asa 400 films out there, but it's not a deal breaker for my personal use. I'm taking in microns, so it's not extremely obvious, but you'll know when looking after development. Buy one or two rolls and try it out, I highly recommend buying only a couple at first to make sure it's what you like before buying bulk orders. This way you don't spend 50 dollars at once.

great film, ok price
This as close as one can get, I think, to the classic B&W high speed look (well 400 ISO, high speed in 1955). I don't know how close it is the the original Tri-X, and one would have to shoot with vintage lenses (in mint condition) to tell - and develop with vintage chemistry and wet print and so on, so one could never know for sure. But way more than close enough. It works especially well with the Zeiss ZM lenses. I bought the ten pack to get the really low price and because this is my choice for 400 ISO. Some of the big camera sites have individual rolls at the same unit price, which obviates the benefits even of Amazon prime shipping. Amazons provisioning of film is strangely spotty, with Ilford having the worst coverage.

Tri X - the one and only
Fast delivery, half brick, fresh film. I use a lot of this film, most is coming from Mexico , some from US , Canada and Japan . I haven noticed any differences in grain or film base -

Grab a roll, your favorite camera, and head off for a day of REAL shooting!
I am taking a black and white photography class in college this fall, and this was the best priced film offered by Amazon. When I bought it, it was $44 for the 10 pack (although when I had added it to my wishlist a few weeks before, it was at $38.) So watch the price, since it seems to fluctuate a good deal - at the time of this review, it's $53. The tri-x film takes a little longer to develop than the other film used in my class. It takes me 8 minutes to develop, while most other students have a developing time of 7 minutes, and a couple people only need 5 minutes. Had I known that in the beginning, it may have made a difference in my purchase. One minute may not be a lot of time, but with the general fast pace of this class, it'd be nice to get developing done quicker so I have more time to spend in the print room. Overall, a very good deal. I remain convinced that black and white film photography bests digital manipulation to this day. It may only be my subjective opinion, but I am not an old photographer - in fact I only started taking pictures about 6 years ago, when the digital craze had already taken over the world. All that said, Kodak Tri-X remains one of my favorite non-professional films. The grain is very fine, but shows up beautifully in larger prints. Contrast is wonderful on the negatives and transfers well. At less than $5 a roll, and with 36 exposures, this is a very economical way of shooting film! Grab a roll, your favorite camera, and head off for a day of REAL shooting!

Awesome film for classic monochrome look
This film has spectacular grain and contrast, and is fast enough to be used with decent indoor lighting without a flash. The images simply have a timeless quality about them, I always look forward to seeing the results of shooting this film. It does a great job photographing people at formal affairs, such as graduation ceremonies, weddings, etc.. It is also great for street photography. It also has superb latitude and tolerates under-/over-exposure. I believe this is one of the best B&W films for pushing exposure, it is easy to shoot it like ISO800 and in certain situations up to ISO1600 can work.

Best Teacher
In the 20 years since I’ve used Tri X 400 the price has gone up a bit. It was nice to make images on the film that started it all with my career in photography. Film is the best teacher when learning photography. You learn to be more economic in your shooting and it forces you to slow down. There’s no instant gratification like there is with film. A good image is based on your skill set and how good you are at reading light.
