Excellent book for SM child - my favorite so far
As the mother of a child with selective mutism, I really loved & appreciated this book. My son had a huge smile when we got to the part where the parrot finally said something when Lily asked "Right?" and Perry said "Right!" and Lily was so surprised! She knew he could talk all along, and she was right! His face just lit up when we got to that part! I only gave it 4 stars as I was very annoyed that it needs editing. Half the time the name was spelled "Lilly" with 2 l's and the other half "Lily." Also a word "other" should have been "another" that was a mispelling. There are no numbered pages (which is more a pet peeve than an editing error) and that made it difficult for me to explain how the first book I ordered was messed up with illustrations and pages out of order, but, I was able to return that one and received another (corrected version) in its place. So if something seems wrong with your book, its possible some pictures or text could be out of place if it was printed incorrectly as mine was.. I replaced my first copy for free through Amazon. Out of the many books with a SM or shy theme, this is my favorite one and I've got 5 or 6 so far... I love the concept of the story line itself (text) AND the pictures are really wonderful, and the expressions on the bird and child are very true. Only one page I was annoyed at, when in the pet store, ALL the birds (except the white one) were talking.. but the picture shows all the birds with their beaks closed. I think some of those should have been open to represent all the noise going on (except for the white one) - but it looks like they are all being quiet. Other than that picture, I really like the animated expressions of Perry and Lily throughout the book- very brightly colored and nicely done. We've read it several times, and I only wish it was a few pages longer, it ended too abruptly and would have liked it to be longer. Maybe there will be a sequel. We would love a part II. And please fix the editing mistakes.

MAYBE...
The author does teach an important skill; some students can be too shy to speak up in class. I did my best to call on every one of students each day, usually 30 or more students in a class and up to seven classes a day. I was taught that the sweetest sound to the human ear is one's own name spoken in kindness.Lily was teaching what she had been taught. That's a very loving attitude. There's only one drawback to this beautiful story. The author has Lily and Perry the parrot holding conversations. In fact, Perry's first word is uttered as a response to Lily.Parrots are much smarter than people thought they were fifty years ago. They can understand that a certain word means a specific object, but that requires almost constant training. We knew many years ago that they could differentiate between people and even prefer one person more than another. This is still a lovely story with great artwork. If you decide to purchase this for your child you can decide when to tell your child the truth about little Perry's conversations. There is a typo. After I publish this review, I'll head over to the author's page.

Lilly's Shy Parrot - is a very good and sweet story for anytime!
I enjoyed this story and how you used a little girl and a shy parrot to help a child who may be shy or knows of someone or some animal in their lives that they could share this with. Also great illustrations, so bright and cheerful, too. For all these reasons I feel that this ebook needs five stars for such a great ebook. I received this ebook for free and in exchange for it I have given it an honest review. Great job Efrat! May I be a beta reader, too?I just need a free ebook of yours to do the work and the review site(s) to do the review at. Okay? By Angela L.

A book with a message!
A book with a great message for young children, can be read in class or at home. Can be used to help kids understand that a difficulty is not necessarily an obstacle.

Average.
Average. Nothing extra special, but cute. I downloaded it for free, so I can't really complain. My three year old loves all books, but started to lose interest a bit, a few pages in, which is rare. Also, the language is...odd.

Great lesson
I read this book to my daughter and it really taught her. that being shy is okay and not being scare to talk in school. Little by little she is coming out of her shyness. Really great story.

A wonderful book
I liked this book because of the smart way it is told through the eyes of Lily and how she teaches her pet parrot not to be shy in a way that children can relat to.

Not for me :(
I didn’t like it, and my son didn’t get out of it what I hoped he would.
