Mameshiba: On the Loose! (1) Paperback – July 5, 2011

"Mame-shiba" means "bean-dog" in Japanese, and there are several varietes: edamame, green pea, lentil, etc.The prefix "mame" also refers to small things in general. These mameshiba cartoon characters are known to spoutmame-chishiki ("small-knowledge" or trivia) after the introductory phrase "Hey, did you know ..."Example: "Hey did you know that the inside of a kangaroo pouch is very smelly."The book starts with brief descriptions of the various types of mameshiba, and then jumps into fun-filled talesof mameshiba adventure and mayhem. The stories were clever, cute and hilarious. The humour and creativity can be appreciated byboth kids and adults. The characters of the various mame-shiba really come out, such as the brave, adventure-lovingedamame, the nerdy lentil, the annoying chickpea, and competitive cranberry. As a mameshiba fan, I loved this book.But I think that even people new to mameshiba will appreciate the creativity, imagination, and humour of the authors.I can't wait for the authors' next installment.

I love this book!It's a fun comic book that includes 2 different storylines, and a few super cute 1-page comics by Gemma Correll.I was searching through my book looking for more things to say about it, and I got stuck reading it rather than writing this review!Unfortunately, it's a fairly short read, but even so, it's well worth the small amount of money that it costs. It's incredibly fun to go back and re-read because the humour is just so silly, it never gets old (such as the peanut-shell-motorboat and gym shorts made especially for beans)If I ever see another book by the same author and artists, I'll definately be buying it! I'd be undescribably happy if a series of these books started.Note that this is just MY opinion, but if you're into mameshiba then you WILL at least like this book.

Cute and colorful, the trivia-loving Japanese "bean dog" characters in this graphic novel have a droll sense of humor. Led by brave Edamame, these intrepid legumes are off on two eccentric adventures: facing mutant sewer chickens ("terrifying monsters made of living sewage and discarded chicken parts. Plus a secret blend of herbs and spices."), and exploring the far reaches of outer space.I gave it to my 7-year-old son and he LOVES how cute the mameshiba are. Though it looks like a kiddie comic, the humor is sophisticated enough for a wide audience. My kids trade it around and loan it to their friends.

Don't get me wrong, I love Mameshiba to death as does my son, plus the story, but the spine does NOT hold well. The glue breaks after a handful of reads, and all the pages slowly came out over a few weeks worth of reading. Taping it only did so much. I still have it, all taped from 2014, but I hated that it fell apart so easily.

CUTE CHARACTERS TO CHERISH! I love finding stories to read with my child that we both can enjoy - the mamashibas are funny,clever and adventurous. My little boy is 7 and he loves this series, he introduced it to a family friend that is 11 and he loved these characters just as much, despite the age difference.

Item came in great condition. My kids loved this book since we borrowed it from library. Happy to own a copy of our own now. Shipping was super quick as well!

Okay well I just got this comic book, and it is one of my new FAVORITES!!! And it is hard to find a good book for me, you see I get bored really easy. But this kept me intertained for hours!!! It is colorful fun gives weird cool fun facts and really funny!!! I give it five stars! Mameshiba: On the Loose!

Fun and imaginative kids book! My kids cannot get enough of Mameshiba.

This is one of those books for kids that adults will enjoy too. The stories are enjoyable adventures starring beans with dog faces. The art is fantastic and full of energy.

Finde ich super weil :-Es ist eher ein klassisches Comic, statt ein Manga, das qualitativ gut verarbeitet ist und für Mameshiba Fans auf keinen Fall im Haushalt fehlen darf!-Die Nebencharaktere orientieren sich am amerikanischen Comicstil und die Mameshibas entspringen asiatischer Comickunst.-Die Geschichten passen wie die Faust aufs Auge zu den kleinen Bohnenhelden und überraschen mit Witz und gewohnt sinnlosem unnützen Wissen wie man es kennt und liebt.Ich selbst bin großer Fan und begeisterter Sammler sämtlichen Merchandise von Mameshiba und die gute verarbeitung dieses Buchs hat mir wirklch sehr zugesagt.Es ist kartoniert und alle Seiten sind in Farbe!Doch ich glaube das eher nur Fans etwas damit anfangen können, da die Mameshiba wirklich etwas ganz eigenes sind.

日本ではもう廃れて、悪あがき状態の豆しばですが、英語の本ということで、興味本位に買ってみました｡　典型的アメコミのコミックブックです。タッチももちろん、アメコミ調｡ゴジラやガメラのアメリカリメイク映画が、妙にかわいげのない、凶暴怪獣ものになってしまったのと同様、この豆しばコミックも、かわいさがなくなってしまいましたね。　おまけに、ストーリーが、下水探検の汚い内容が二話と、月探検で、これまた、グロテスクな宇宙人が出て来るのがもう一話。フルカラーなので、汚さ倍増、グロ倍増の印象です｡　かわいい豆しばのイメージぶち壊しで、およそ、日本の豆しばファンには受けない図柄です｡　ちなみに、うちの子は、この英語本を喜びませんでした。数年前まで、豆しばのファンでしたが、「もう、子供じゃない」と、10歳の子供に言われてしまいました｡　　　買ってがっかりしないように、イメージのサンプルをアップロードしておきます｡
