This unit does exactly what it's supposed to do. My $400 microphone sounded terrible when trying to connect it to my new laptop's analog microphone jack. The noise was beyond the capabilities of any audio editor to filter out without also severely compromising the recorded voice. Now, with the microphone audio digitized and connected to the USB port, the white noise level is minimal and easily filtered out, leaving a clean, clear vocal recording. Now, my microphone sounds like it's worth $400 (not $4).The device was immediately detected by my 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise operating system. No drivers needed beyond those built into the OS.My only criticism is that the preamplifier could stand to have some more gain. Many dynamic microphones produce a very tiny audio output signal. My VU graph shows only about one-third of the desired recording level with the input set at 100% and AGC (automatic gain control) turned on. Nonetheless, since the noise content is low, the signal can be boosted in the audio editing package, and the white noise is still able to be completely removed.
