The Lockheed F-94 Starfire was the first operational jet-powered, all-weather interceptor aircraft by the United States Air Force. Lockheed developed the F-94 from the T-33 Shooting Star trainer aircraft. Because the F-61 Black Widow and North American F-82 Twin Mustang were already old and needed replacement, the radar-equipped jet-powered aircraft in 1948.
