Use a Fork
I'm adding this one to the pile of overpriced and unnecessary baby gadgets. In theory it seems like a great idea to have a hand held masher for feedings. In practice anything that will mush through the holes is also easily mushed with a fork, which costs about 25 cents and you probably already own one. If the food has any fiber at all, it will not go through the holes. Even pasta cooked al dente is a trial for this gadget. After smushing, there was more food left in the bottom of the device than food that came through the holes. It just squished the food and didn't really push the food through the holes for a bite size. At home, I found myself reaching for the fork or potato masher instead of this or a blender - as both a fork and potato masher work better than this little gadget and both are quieter and easier to clean than a blender or grinder. The only good side: I can see the appeal if you are traveling or in a restaurant and want a hand held item in which to hold some baby food while you dish it into little one's mouth. The spoon snaps into the handle, which is also a plus. While the design is pleasing, however, the function is limited and not worth the substantial price tag. Over three years and multiple kids I found that I used this maybe 4 times. What works in this gadget? Already soft things that you can easily use a fork with:Bananasovercooked pasta.Super ripe fruit, such as pears, that you must peel firstwhat doesn't work?Sweet potatoes, any vegetable with a skin (peas, corn, beans) and everything else.

Works well
This is a handy tool to carry around in your diaper bag for those times when you don't have baby food for your little one. I like that it is very easy to clean. I just throw it in the dish washer and it cleans up nicely. Also I really like that there is a spoon that snaps on the top. This is a very convenient feature. It also has a cover so that once you use it you can just pop the cover on and put back in your diaper bag without worrying about making a mess in your bag. The extra grater piece is also a plus because you can mash up more than one food without actually mixing the foods together. Overall, I really like the wean machine. Some reviews stated that you could just use a fork and this is true but with some foods like pasta or potatoes this makes it a lot easier. I would definitely recommend this product.

Great idea, but hard to clean
I was very excited when I purchased this product. My baby just started on solids and I was so tired of mashing bananas, cutting up avocados for my little guy. This product does what it advertises. It is quite fun to use, too. However, cleaning takes longer time than preparing the food. You have to take the parts apart to clean it after each use, otherwise the fibers of the food will get stuck around the rim of attachments. I got tired of scrubbing them and soon this product was retired to the back of the drawer.

WOW!!!
This is a really neat product; it was obviously invented by a mom. I would say this is perfect for babies around 7 months or older. It doesn't puree the food so your baby should be able to handle more texture and chunks in his/her food. So far I have tried, spaghetti, a banana, steamed broccoli, and a chicken-pasta dish. It works like a garlic press. If it can be mashed with a fork, it will work well in this devise. Things that don't mash such as cantaloupe, oranges, or grapes don't work so well, they just make juice . It is extremely portable and will be perfect for use at any restaurant. The spoon clips on and it has a lid, so you are ready to go. Clean up was also very easy!! This is much easier than a food processor.

It's coming in handy
We like this because our baby wants to eat what we're eating. The biggest problem is that the food doesn't all go through the holes and a lot gets stuck in the bottom. It still gets mushed, so we just scrape that part out with a spoon.

The Wean Machine Portable Baby Food Maker
This item is a great idea, but in all reality, completely unneccessary. Save your money! My baby went from eating mushy baby food, refusing to eat chunks, to eating solid foods overnight. I am a big fan of gadgets and wanted so bad to use this one but found that for things that needed mashing/strainig like avocados, my Pampered Chef garlic press was perfect and The Wean Machine was just a lot of extra work to get the same results as using basic kitchen utensils. Hopefully, there are some people out there that found The Wean Machine useful, but for me it was money wasted.

Not a substitute for a food mill
This device only handles really soft food, for which a fork works perfectly well. In fact, I prefer the results I get with a fork on bananas, avocados, pasta, cooked carrots, squash and potatoes. For slightly harder food (like fruit, stir-fried veggies, and rice) this device just doesn't work. Spend less money and buy a little portable hand operated food mill.

Great Product!
Love, love love this!! We love and keep this in the diaper bag next to the empty bottle, bottled water and pre-measured formula! You never know when you'll end up stuck somewhere! You could probably use a fork to mash stuff up, but if your son is a beast that wants you to shovel food in, nothing else will do. Some things like noodles take a bit of convincing and re-mashing. Unless they made it out of metal, I think you'd have to re-mash with any product. When you're in a hurry, you're always good for forgetting the small stuff like a bottle, or spoon. Make sure you have this...
