Not for perfectionists
Luckily I did not need these hexagons to be perfectly shaped. These are vacuum-sealed and take time to restore them to original shape. Once I got a few expanded, I knew I had to throw perfectionism out the window. They are clearly not identically shaped (edge lengths vary up to 1cm-1.5cm). I had 1 out of my purchase of 24 be so inconsistently-shaped that I had to discard it. I planned for up to 4 to be unusable and was pleased that there were fewer.Tips for success: DO NOT use a heat gun or hair dryer to expand this densely-packed foam. It will change the texture of the surface if it gets even a little too hot (something like the back side of washed fleece). Water produces the best results. Submerse each piece, squeezing to absorb what it can. To dry: Just roll it up and stomp on it between dry towels. Lay them out to air-dry on a towel for a day or keep trying to squeeze as much moisture as you can from them.
