A LIFESAVER!!!
I bought a 120 year old farmhouse and in the garage, it has drains in the floor. However, this was the era before traps were put in these floor drains and as such, the smell was overwhelming. I saw these and wondered if they would really work. Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about this little gadget. It worked PERFECTLY! I really wondered if it would stop the smell, yet let water flow. Both happen flawlessly. Just be sure your order the correct size and when you insert it into the drain, be sure you don't get it curled. Even if your pipe curves like mine, it still will work. Just gently lay it in so the back flow preventer follows the contour. It will stop any and all sewer gas and smells instantly! I have poured a few gallons of water down to test it and the water flows without any restriction. This is one of the smallest things that has brought so much relief. Definite 5/5 star indeed.

Great fit
Quality better than expected. Fits great in off sized drain. No impairment of water flow. Works very well that minimizing drain odors and keeping bugs out.

not worth it, causes slow drainage
I bought 2 of these and installed them in 2 different showers because roaches kept coming out of the drain. But the problem is that they cause the water to drain too slowly. If the valve is not trimmed, then the water will not drain on its own until it's about 1-2" inches deep, which is unacceptable in a stand-up shower (i.e. not a bathtub). I kept trimming the valves to be shorter and shorter, hoping it would take less water pressure for them to open up and let the water drain, but it didn't help. I was regularly poking a pencil into the shower drain to open it up. Because they slow the drainage, it causes more sticky gunk and hair to build up and the drain became clogged. Ultimately the drain and shower was much grosser with the valve than without. I ended up removing both valves after a few months.

Works so far, but restricts water flow more than I hoped
The instructions were good, but some parts were still hard to understand. When you need to expand it, do you need the big metal piece, expander, then the small metal piece? Should have an exploded diagram of what it is. It does seem to be preventing the sewer gas - primary goal. We just have to use lower volume of water, or the drain cant keep up and it pools in the shower. I have 1.5" shower drain which calls for the small kit, but wondering if the next size up would work better...

It is too restrictive
I had sewer fly’s in the shower. I bought this to remedy the situation. The device does the trick of keeping them out of the shower. After fitting it to the 2” drain, it wouldn’t drain water fast enough. I started cutting 1/4” pieces off the bottom. Not a whole lot of luck so I started cutting vertical. The is still some standing water after a 5-8 minute shower, but I can live with that.

No more smell
This is a great product. After a bathroom renovation last year we have been struggling with sewer smell even though the p-trap was installed properly, etc. This inexpensive seal has stopped the smell for very little investment. LOVE IT

Works extremely well for floor drain
I was skeptical before buying this -- I have to say this really works well!!! Really well! Used this for a floor drain which is in a utility room and it has made a huge difference in how fresh the room smells. Before it was musty and the drain trap is set in 8" of concrete so not really fixable otherwise. First tested by pouring water through before installing and found that the flow is not reduced much at all (so the floor drain will still drain water fine if it's needed to prevent flooding of the house.) Installed very easily. And after a few days, I can say it really has worked very well to make the utility room smell much much better!

Perfect for what we needed
Works great for what we needed! We were able to get it down below the floor level so our regular drain cover could be put back on and this backflow can't even be seen.
