One of the Best Chord Books Ever
I love this book. Exactly what I was looking for. Finally a jazz guitar chord book written in plain language. Very easy to understand and follow. I highly recommend it.

horrendous approach!
Im not an expert or anything but they start you out with "drop 2" voicings.Fm7 C7 and Gm7b5.If you can, tell me how these 3 chords together would apply to ANYTHING?Then add in different modes in the bassline for each chord? A more comprehensive approach would to teach chords in a usable fashion.Such as learning the m7 such as dm7 then G7 then Cmaj7 and if you wanted add the major scale on top so you can play a chordal melody. Then use it in a way that would be used such as Roman Numeral IIm7-V7-Imaj7...something that's used CONSTANTLY in jazz.Or a I-VIm-IIm-V would be nice.Get creative with modes later once you learn the basic major scale chords. which is also used ALOT in jazz. But Fm7 to C7 to Gm7b5? makes no sense to learn that? Where would you apply it?Why needlessly make things confusing? And the book goes on in that fashion.I threw this book in the useless pile. This author needs to learn common chord structures before writing a book about chord mastery.

Finally a book that I want to use!
I have had plenty of experience with instructional books. Most of the problems I have with these books is that they either have too much practical instruction, which teaches nothing or they are just about theory. This book instantly shows you how different invasions can sound different against changes in the overall melody. Then you can work on fingering these shapes, and instantly apply it. I was dubious about the backing tracks, but clicked on the link, downloaded them and was playing the backing tracks within minutes. I bought the kindle version and was concerned that the diagrams would be too small, but they are fine. The author seems to understand what an intermediate player needs to know and provides that. Highly recommended!

This is a great introduction to jazz chord construction and theory
I am only beginning my journey to learn jazz guitar, and I recently came across the Fundamental Changes books. After checking out the samples here on Amazon I went ahead and bought this one. I have only scratched the surface of what this book has to offer, and I have already learned about chord voicings, some basic progressions, and alternate ways to construct chords. I may need to go back and learn some more basic theory about chords, but I have been able to understand what I've encountered in this book up to now. I highly recommend this title if you're looking to move into jazz guitar. There many other books in the Fundamental Changes series, and I'm sure that I'll buy more of them as I progress.

Very easy to follow and well organized
I've been playing guitar over 50 years. I know the fretboard, I know many jazz chords. But the process of removing the root at the base of chords and moving into the intervals has helped me learn chords in a new way. It's also a great brain workout. The book is easy to follow. It covers the main jazz chord types. Excellent!

Best Book for Jazz Guitar
This book will really help you grasp the whole jazz guitar concept. The author even shows you the most popular, and first family of chords learned by most jazz guitar players.I recommend purchasing the first book in the series also, called “Guitar Chords in Context”.

This is a great book!!
I'm really impressed by this book. I've been playing guitar for 40+ years...currently playing mainly classic rock and blues. I have become a huge fan of Robben Ford. His playing inspired me to want to expand my playing to include tasteful jazzy chords while playing blues. This book has so much info in it. But it is very clearly written. I just received the book yesterday and worked through chapter 2 this morning. I feel like I've already learned so much. You have to take your time with it to allow it to sink in. Overall, I highly recommend this book if you want to learn various voicings for jazzy chords.

Jazz guitar igniter!
This is a great, straightforward approach to learning jazz chords for comping. Incorporating these chords into your playing will allow you to play characteristic accompaniments to jazz standards. (The chords are easily manageable, unlike the stereotypical jazz guitar chord)

Complex concepts in a totally understandable form - excellent
I'm a big fan of Joseph's publications. Always clear and he has a skill in discussing and explaining concepts - sometimes complicated - in ways which suit my brain much better than most authors in similar offerings. The topics are structured in a way which lends themselves to a workable practice routine, which is often difficult to prioritise and structure. This title attacks a subject which often seems like a black art and turns it into something approachable and usable without dumbing it down.Keep them coming please Joseph.

if you put the effort into learning this book will pay off big time!
A very helpful guide and tool for understanding how chords really work if you have not ventured into inversions on different stringiest now is your chance and wow the doors it opens up!

Clear diagrams of chords and tonic notes
This was my first purchase from Joseph Alexander in order to improve my speed and technique of jazz chord progressions so as to play American standards with my friend who plays clarinet and loaned me his Jazz song book.I enjoyed the learning process and with the help of Sibelius software I am improving my memory and technique.
