Just what I needed for a dull winter. Certainly one of the best art books I own. Every acknowledged painting by the Sicilian Renaissance master. He was a vital link between the new-fangled oil painting of Venice and Flanders, and the clean sturdy tempera work of say Piero. With its fascinating essays and plentiful, clear illustrations, this is the very model monograph that illuminates the work of a great master.

Interesting background information on this artist. Not enough color photos, but the ones that are there are high quality.

Beautiful, large hi-res reproductions of the artist’s paintings, especially the close-ups.

Excellent. The text by Bottari is intimate and provides a unique perspective on Messina's contribution. I found it useful to cite for a research paper on Venetian landscape painting.

Cada vez que voy al Prado de Madrid, me detengo en el cuadro del Cristo Muerto sostenido por un ángel de Antonello da Messina. Encuentro esta pintura fascinante y está incluida en este libro, así como muchos otras pinturas. Colecciono libros de arte y este libro es uno de mis favoritos. . . vale cada centavo. Muy recomendable.
