One of the manga greats.
Really do not judge this manga on the first few volumes. This is quite literally setting the scene for one of the Manga greats. That is really no exaggeration. The manga creator, Yoshiro Togashi, has not written a manga chapter in over 2 years and this manga is still in the top 10 sales of manga worldwide in 2013. This volume has been criticised as being 'childish' because of the lack of action but that's because this arc isn't meant for action but believe me, this manga will bring through an amazing blend of fun loving humour and some very dark twisted places, but fortunately it blends them both perfectly insuring that you never get bored. This is one of the few mantas that really blur the line between good and evil, the main male protagonist, Gon, is not some Naruto/ Ichigo unrealistically high morals/ do no wrong sought of character, he is a kid who is exploring the world and he does most things because they effect him in some way (e.g. Not everything is done for the protection of his friends or the safety of the world) and without these great restrictions, make him one of the deepest most 3 dimensional characters in manga and that's what gives him his likability as a character. Another great part of HxH is the fact that no two arcs are similar, it feels like a real world with different events that happen to the protagonist constantly unlike most mambas that follow a basic pattern (e.g. Go somewhere, find a group of people who are evil, each character fights one of the group and the protagonist fights the main bad guy, they win, they move onto another group of bad guys etc.) nothing is recycled. Sorry, this is really dragging on but another great thing is the amount of character development each character gets, if he has a name, he gets his entire life explained to you in a quick flashback and summary, their are even characters that you don't what they look like because they have not been shown but you will know everything about them, such as childhood experiences or little habits or even fetishes (although they don't go I to detail about them) and the fact that they get this level of detail each really brings the world alive and doesn't just fell like they're just there to fill a panel.Right that went on for far longer than it had to, this manga is amazing (although art is on the sketchy side) but the story is completely captivating with some incredible characters. If you are unsure there is both a anime that was created in 1999 (goes up to the end of the Greed Island Arc) and the new 2011 anime that is still ongoing (currently covering Chimera Ant Arc). Check them out or read this just what ever you do give this a try, you will no be disappointed.

Loved the series and have read all chapters but wanted my own copy for my library.* The book weights nothing but apart from that it's all good.* Wish they came in colour.* Was delivered in a day and came in perfect condition

What an amazing manga (and anime) I highly recommend to anybody it's a great story and great art the only downside is that the manga is known to go on long hiatuses (as of writing this review it is at volume 32) but it can't be helped as the Mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi is prone to illness so it's one of those "good things come to those who wait" kind of things, nevertheless I still highly recommend you pick up the first couple volumes to see what you think I don't think you will be upset with your purchase.

The start of a journey that you won't regret
H X H is a fantastic series, and although volume 1 is a slow start it is completely necessary to the layout of the series as you will see in future volumes. We are introduced to the 4 protagonists in this volume, although we only meet the real second protagonist to Gon at the end of the volume. We are also introduced to one of the main antagonists - or should i say, anti-protagonists; the very eerie Hisoka.A fun and promising start in to a deep and dark serie , The Hunter exam arc lasts for 5 volumes - 38 chapters, and after that when Gon and Killua brave the corrupt world; that's when it becomes incredible.Check this out!

I really liked that.
To be honest I never thought I would pick up Hunter x Hunter; it didn't seem like my type of story but surprisingly I really loved this.

My review of Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter X Hunter Manga, Volume One
As far as Manga goes, I get skeptical on what’s a cut above the rest and what’s just the rest that gets imported to English. Hunter X Hunter from it’s first volume is truly that cut! A brilliant beginning with simple yet effective illustration, a focused and marvellous set-up to the characters, world and themes that many shonen series incorporate with varying levels of success and action moments that keep the readers guessing and surprised at almost every turn to the next page. If you enjoy graphic novels that strike the balance between being widely accessible yet with a fair amount of depth and involvment, I strongly reccomend you start with this and see what you think
