This item is for hunting. This blade is handmade from 1095 High Carbon Steel and 15n20 Steel. It is hardened to about 57-60 on the Rockwell C scale (HRC). This blade is a serious blade that will work well for hunting and fishing. It can be easily sharpened at home or in the field, and will hold an edge very well. It is genuine layered damascus steel (not fake or imitation damascus).

Three major problems with this product:1.) It came to me with a large crack that ran along the edge. I tried grinding it down to get rid of it, but even after grinding away nearly 1/4 of an inch away, it was still there. At that point, I knew it was a lost cause.2.) It was as dull as a butter knife. The edge was also the angle that an axe might have, not a boot knife.3.) The holes did not come drilled into the tang. This was the moment I gave up and just bought a different product.I bought this hoping that the other 2 star review was a one time thing, but whoever this distributor seems to have zero quality control. Buyer beware.Edit:I will say this: the steel itself is genuinely good quality--there is no deception there. It shouldn't chip, crack, or warp, and will be able to maintain an edge. BUT, the problem lies in the smith's lack of quality control, meaning you could get a stellar knife blank, or a poorly made one.

no quality control on this one
I sent it back for a replacement and haven't received yet. The cut on the blade was nice, BUT on two thirds of one side of the ricasso the etching didn't take. I must have been contaminated. It looked smeared. There were also three larger than pin hole voids in the blade. Hoping the replacement is made and finished better!! The replacement arrived and it just fine. A very striking piece!

Shoddy workmanship
The geometry of the blade is off. The edges are far from symmetrical which gives the blade a leaning appearance. The bolster isn't square. On whole, the blade would need to be ground again.
