So happy I got this!
I used this for the first time tonight... my bestie in cali sent me all these homemade goodies and I want them to last as long as possible, so I put them in the SousBear vacuum sealer bags... I got the manual pump, instead of the electric one, so I don't have to worry about the battery.. lolIt is very easy to use and I'm excited I can now vacuum-pack my foods! The quality of the bags seem to be very good...Normally, I don't leave reviews, but Co-Founder - Austin from SousBear enclosed a letter inside the box and their customer service appears to be very good as well from reading the letter... For me, I really like the tone of the letter... honest & heartfelt... and them being a small business, I would like to support them by leaving them an honest review...This is the first time using them, so I have not tried to wash the pump nor the bags, so I cannot say anything about that, but I'm guessing it's like washing a regular ziplock bag.I had looked at a variety of brands, but as I normally do, I ran it through fakespot.com and I'm pretty sure it was at least a "B" rating regarding the "honesty/authenticity" of the reviews...I love manually vacuuming out the air... there's something "organic" about that versus having an electrically-powered vacuum suck out the air... lol... as I was FaceTiming my mother, she was saying I look like a "villager" working on something... lol... (I actually wanted one b/c my mother has one, not this brand, but an electric one... she loves hers... This is one of those "gadgets" that's a must-have in a kitchen, unlike something like a bagel slicer... LOL...)I bought this when the price dropped to $18-something... I think with all the bags and clips with the pump it was worth it.Thank you, SousBear!

Better than expected
I originally thought twice about my purchase of these at the same time I bought a sous vide and planned to return them after purchase, thinking they were too pricey and figured the water displacement method of sealing bags would be just fine. But I procrastinated and when I wanted to return them, unopened, I had missed the window. These work well and once sealed and vacuumed, work much more effectively than a submerged Ziplock. There are a few things to be mindful of:- Because of some other reviews, I've been sure to use a bag big enough to assure the vent remains above the water line when cooking. That has eliminated any concern about water soaking the food, especially for longer cook times;- Cleaning the bags for reuse is difficult, as a slight texture on the inside of one side of the bags can cling to food residue;- Properly sealing the bags can be challenging, even using the supplied clips. Be sure to run your fingers over the seal well to assure they're fully closed;- It can be a bit of a challenge to get the valve to cooperate the first time it's used, but with a bit of persistence it "pops" and works as needed;- The tip of the vacuum syringe can be disassembled for cleaning but the syringe itself can't, making it a bit difficult to properly clean out whatever juices or marinades that might be sucked out of the bag as you're vacuuming it;- I'm not sure I'd use these to sous vide food containing a cut bone, I'd be afraid an edge of the bone might puncture the bag under the pressure of vacuuming;- These bags aren't cheap, you may want to use them in ways that allow reuse or to store foods that are more pricey but can be extended by vacuum sealing.Unlike some others, I haven't had a problem with the strength of the handle, I just don't treat a piece of plastic as though it's made of titanium or expect it to perform as if it was.All in all, pretty pleased with this originally questionable purchase.

Better option for freezer storage
This product was very easy to use right out of the box. It is the perfect solution for an economical alternative to buying a vacuum sealer machine and non-reusable freezer bags. This is a much better option.

Good but could be better
Bought these to replace the disposable bags used by our vacuum sealer and am overall happy with the quality and ease of use. We have been using these bags for a little over a year (purchased January 2023) and in that time have only had one bag break, and none have lost their sealing or vacuuming abilities. The pump and sealing clips are easy to use, though the pump can be hard to clean if you accidentally vacuum raw meat juice or marinade up into it.Unfortunately, the difficulties with cleaning the bags cause me to knock the rating down. Though I love that the bags are dishwasher safe, they often take at least two cycles to come fully clean because they don't stay open for the water. I open the mouth of the bag wide and place it over a grid of prongs in my dishwasher to hold it as open as possible, but every time the bags end up filling with water and falling over, folding in half and just sitting there, full of water without actually being washed. I have to empty them and then prop them open on tall cups to get them to stay open in order to dry.If there were some kind of gusset at the bottom to help hold the sides open that may help.
