Running Temperature
Works fine as a great PFSense firewall but I am concerned about the running temperature. PFsense is reporting that the average temperature is around 80 degrees Celsius. This is very hot and so I'm worried about the long term reliability of the system. Right now I've taken the top lid off to keep the temperature a bit lower - it's now around 70 degrees. I'm going to look for a larger case with fan to keep the components cooler..

Very good quality
I have installed ubuntu as I dedicating it for different purpose then originally it is designed. Have to admit works perfect. All drivers were found, graphics are smooth and I can even watch video, but it is used as a NAS server, so the time will show the life span on domestic network.P.S. Good news, the device will turn on immediately once it will be powered on. Such feature never seen on other micro-computers (except rpi, odroid, parallela), but irreparable for micro-servers, NAS or surveillance systems.

Got the 4GB/64GB device, overwrote pfSense with Untangle, plenty of RAM & Disk space for my 70 or so devices - just a note, there is not a 1*SATA3.0 interface or ability to house a 2.5" drive/ssd in this one.

Good piece of kit
Came on time and is used in my network lab at home and used by good students at the college where I teach Computer Systems and Networking.

I had some issues with the usb keyboard not working in the bios. The problem was random but frequent enough that it made the setup quite difficult. However since the OS has been installed it has worked well.

Ideal for pfSense
Nice little piece of kit. Added an M.2 SSD and some 1.35V RAM, installed pfSense and it has been working for a couple of months without a single glitch.

OK. Didn't make one nine let alone five of them
Grrrr. The port numbers don't correlate with the numbers in the software. Took a while to figure out which port was which. Finally got it all set up, running a VPN nicely. Can't vouch for the performance, as I failed to benchmark it.THEN there was a power cut, and the thing wouldn't start up again: no internet, no web UI, no SSH. Not even sure if it's working as it's such a hassle to put a head back on it, reboot, probably rescue the FS, maybe reinstall, reconfigure, etc., that I haven't bothered yet. Either way, I don't expect a router to require manual intervention to get it going again after a simple power cut. Any other router would just reboot and be fine. Most of the problem might be mitigated by a better FS than whatever pfsense uses, though (something journaling?). I **might** have just been really unlucky, too. Weigh the odds of that for yourself.

Great firewall with added versatility
This unit more than fulfils my needs. It’s working great with the latest version of pfsense and as fast as anything, even with multiple VPNs and interfaces in operation. What I like most about this unit is it’s quiet (actually it’s completely silent) and it gives a lot of options in what it can do going forward, i.e. different a O/S or perhaps running as a small hypervisor. Although it’s certainly warm to the touch, it doesn’t get too hot and the heat feels evenly distributed across the cooling fins. Would definitely recommend!
