The Beast Arises Omnibus Volume 1 (Warhammer 40,000)

Inept politicians almost allow an angry fungus to conquor the galaxy.
Excellent read! This is the correct printing of this volume! The first printing had a horrendous editing error where the last book of this omnibus was replaced with the first book of the 2nd Beast Arises omnibus. My favorite thing about this series is the long hard look into the malignant abyss of human politics. If you want to know how playing politics in the face of disaster might be more dangerous than any other threat to our survival, then this series is for you. Also lots of crazy 40k stuff and Ork shenanigans. And a few insights into how the imperium became less the attempt upon fate by the living God-Emperor of mankind, and more the Grimdark future of the 41st millenium.

Tore through this, misprinting mistake dampened the end result.
Very enjoyable start. the first two books though very different in writing style were awesome. i lost steam during book three, i believe this was due to the writing style more than subject. in book four i felt as though either somethings were just too fast or i missed something. characters were suddenly back as if previous events didn't happen or weren't explained clearly. it was easy enough to follow i just felt it was rushed and confusing in places. over-all enjoyable and i went ahead and purchased the second volume.Additional Edit. After checking into the issues i had, the first printing of this volume was printed with book 5 in book 4s spot. All copies after February 2019 i believe, are the correct printing. i would still recommend these books, i believe that in the correct order i would have had little issue with this volume. just make sure to check your title page print dates. if it says 2019 instead of 2018. The only other way to know if you have a bad printing would be to open to book 4, volume 1. read a paragraph. then compare the opening paragraphs in the preview of volume 2. the misprinted version has the correct title. so i wouldn't only rely on that. I will eventually purchase another volume 1 simply so my sons may enjoy this later in life. good luck, i hope you don't get any left over bad printings.

A nice read
The first book really help putting the step on the story. I couldn't leave the book alone. Saying that after reading the first book the rest are just ok at best they are good. You can really see the difference of each author and Dan Abbnet is by far the best one here. The other books seem good but, felt a bit slow and boring at some parts and in other's they shine. For me the weakest book on this omnibus is whit Gave Thorp and the strongest whit Abbnet! In all It's a good read. But the mistake of this book was having Abbnet go first, he should have been 3 - 4 book so he could rise the stakes even more!!!

Serious printing error! Book 4 in the series is missing in this edition.
While the story is great 40K action at its best, there is a serious problem in that Book 4 of the 12-book series, 'The Last Wall' is actually book 5 'Throneworld.' It has the title page, The Last Wall,' but the text is from 'Throneworld.' The book itself is not here in this printing.I realized this mistake when I started on Vol. 2 of TBA, and realized I was reading the same book again. I had to go back and look at the original releases to find the problem. I was wondering why there were events being referred to as already having happened when I hadn't read about them yet. Essentially, you're reading them out of order in this edition. I had to go find an e-book edition of Last Wall to find out what I missed. Hopefully, that is the only error in this collection. I don't know if this is a problem in the e-book version of the omnibus, as well, but I'm knocking 2 stars from the review because an entire book is missing here and that's a pretty big oversight on the publisher's part.

Engrossing
The tale of The Beast will grip you by the guts and won’t let you go as it laughs in the booming voice of green skinned gods.

2019 UPDATE - DO NOT PURCHASE confirmed by the publisher - Chapters missing from the novel
2019 UPDATEThe reprint was finally released (see below for the original issue) and I’m pleased to say that the issue has now been fixed, the books are in the correct order now.Given this fact, I’m happy to revise my original 1 star review.ORIGINAL REVIEWDO NOT PURCHASEThere are chapters missing from the novel, the whole chapter of the ork ambassador is missing, as other reviewers have pointed out. i have spoken to the publisher "Black Library" who have told me "We had become aware of an issue with the first print run of the Beast Arises Anthology and it has been removed from sale. A corrected version is being printed and should be released in the next few months." they will only help people who purchased directly from black library. so wait until the book is reprinted.

REGARDING PRINTING ERROR
Most of the negative reviews are to do with a massive printing error by Black Library - there was a load of Vol 1 printed with books 1,2,3, & 5 in error, so when people got to Vol 2 they were confused - you can see that this edition was printed in 2019, and the error has been corrected. I waited over a month to order this book, but once Black Library re-issued it, and I saw Amazon's publication date had changed I took the risk - bought all 3 volumes, and everything is in perfect order now.

Only the first book is written by Dan Abnett.
I read the first book as a hard back and enjoyed it so much I purchased the first omnibus for reading on my iPad. The omnibus is written by various authors but maintains a good level of action and I enjoyed it. My only complaint is that I find reading using kindle is more of a struggle than a pleasure. I think I have missed reading one of the books completely, this will probably not be a problem for someone who is used to the format.

Massive editing error!
The original thin individual hardbacks were probably a rip off but four in an omnibus is a rare bargain from the Black Library. Dan Abnett as usual is the cream of the crop, awesome tension building and believable characters. Cannot wait for parts 2 and 3. Had to edit my review as i belatedly became aware of a chronic editing error! Book 4 is actually book 5, I only noticed when I started volume 2 and it was very familiar! Hard to believe this was published with such a massive error?!

Printing error fixed
Amazing series so far, the printing error is always fixed, it's annoying that people are giving it a 1 because of this now fixed error. Also this does not affect kindle purchases at all. Amazing books, please don't post a 1 because of a printing error, this is a rare black library bargain
