Straightforward assembly recommend Stainless Handrails for better look and function
Despite comments to the contrary, we found assembly of the OBGE steps easy for one person to manage. Assembly took about an hour. A non-marring dead-blow hammer is very helpful to seat the mating tabs. A cordless power drill with a Phillips bit is nice for the dozen of so stainless screws used in the assemble of the steps.Another tip is to make some sand filled weights using 4" PVC pipe with glued endcaps and strap these to the step bottom inside area with stainless clamps or rubber bungee cords - to avoid having to fill the steps with sand. When securing the pool for the winter, you can unstrap the weights and more easily lift the steps out of the pool. If you fill then with sand as the instructions direct, you'll have extremely heavy, difficult to remove steps. This will ensure no “sand leaks.”For an upscale look and functional upgrade/alternative to the standard plastic hand rails, Recommend considering the “Ocean Blue Stainless Steel Handrail for Grand Entrance Step” – this is a beautiful up-scale Stainless Steel upgrade alternative to standard white plastic handrails available on Amazon with Prime shipping (you should by a set of two handrails). These Stainless Steel hand rails look so much better than the white plastic ones that come standard with the Ocean Blue Grand Entrance Steps (OBGES). They fit the THREE STEP OBGES kit perfectly without any modification. Please note if you have the FOUR STEP OBGES kit you will have to modify the inside handrail sockets of the top-most (fourth step) step (inside) side and back panels to allow the Handrails to drop down t the third step inner socket via the top handrail hole an additional 14 1/2 inches. The way you do this is as follows. You will have to cut out a two inch wide strip of plastic side wall below the handrail socket to allow the handrail to slide down and seat in the socket inside the third step socket - and effectively not use the inner socket bottom of the fourth step Handrail socket. You can cut the plastic with a sharp utility knife and score the cut several times. An alternative to this approach is to cut off 14 1/2 inches from the upper end of the Stainless Steel handrail and use the fourth/top step handrail socket without the previously mentioned plastic modification. We did not want to cut the stainless tubing and preferred to cut the plastic in a manner that cannot be seen.Hope you found these tips to be helpful.
