I have always loved Edgar Rice Burroughs - first read when i was 10. It is fun to revisit these memories as an older adult when you know so much more about the world in which these fantasies were written.

My uncle read these very books in his youth and was thrilled when the movie came out and now I have read them! I almost missed out on reading these most wonderful creations!

An entertaining series of stories.

Edgar Rice Burroughs was a fantastic (in every sense of that word) story-teller, and his two most famous series are TARZAN and this one variously referred to as BARSOOM or MARS or JOHN CARTER (OF MARS). My 5-star rating reflects the excellence of his writing style and the quality of these highly imaginative tales that have enthralled generations of readers (of which I am one). If you first read them many years ago in your youth, upon re-reading them now as an adult, you may be pleasantly surprised by just how well-written they actually are.This Jovian Press edition provides the first (and, perhaps, best) 5 in a series of 11. These are available for free in individual public domain editions, but this bundle is an easy way to instantly get all 5. However, a better deal is offered by Engage; for only $.99 it provides the first 7 novels accompanied by original illustrations. (Search in the Kindle Store under "Engage Barsoom.")A truly complete set of all 11 BARSOOM books is not currently available in the Kindle Store because of copyright issues in the U.S.; in recent years, those that have briefly appeared (in British, Australian, or Canadian editions wherein ALL 11 are in the public domain) have been removed.
