Not a "complete guide"
This is the second Levi Clay book I've purchased (and the last), and I can't figure out what his objective or learning styles is. All you get in this book is a bunch of 2-3 measure "examples" of things you can do with slide. Great if you want to just noodle around, but NOT the way to teach someone to play slide songs of increasing complexity. I want to develop my slides skills and apply them to songs. There are few actual songs in this book, which is as useless as the last one of his books I purchased. There also is little attempt to work in the bass lines, which seems rather critical to acoustic blues playing!

Great read
A most useful text dedicated to learning the ins and outs of playing Delta Blues Slide Guitar. Joseph Alexander and Levi Clay offers explanations that are easy to understand and apply. He doesn't just show you the licks, he explains the geometry behind the licks and why the notes work. This book offers an introduction to the nuances of playing slide guitar and bases it in the flavor of Delta Blues, making it informative and useful for beginner and advanced players alike. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in playing slide guitar or just learning the style of the Delta Blues.

Good intro to this style of playing
I opened this book with 40+ years of guitar playing experience. For me, all the examples, discussion of keys and root notes and patterns, I, IV, V progressions -- were easy to understand. If you're new to guitar, you'll need to work a little harder to get this, but it's a good journey to take!I like how the examples are (mostly) short and to the point. Easy to practice over and over with the included (but separately downloaded) song files, and easy to try out while listening to other blues songs. Would be nice if the book included a jam track or two, but search Youtube for blues jam tracks in D or G. Examples are recorded well, music notation is clear. What I like the most is the writing style, it just guides you along until BAM!, you've learned something useful. Covers tunings, using a slide, how to use your other fingers with a slide, adding bass parts, vibrato, sliding between notes. Just enough music theory to hold it all together, but the author stresses that you need to listen and play what feels good to you. Included a list of many good blues musicians to listen learn from. Be aware though, this is not a book of songs to learn. It's a book of techniques and how to apply them, so you can learn and play along with the songs you want!

Very good book for beginners
This is truly a great book to purchase and learn from. I bought the 2020 version of Blues Guitar for dummies and learned from that first. However one can easily just purchase this book first and just go with it. Prior to both books I had no experience playing a guitar. Sure I strummed a few for kicks at Guitar Center, but in this pandemic I've really had the chance to buckle down and learn. The licks and few songs you learn will truly help your style and before you know it, you'll easily develop your own style. The family members listening on will become parched and famine with beads of sweat rolling down wanting to sit on a porch and drink sweet tea.

Great introduction for slide guitar blues
I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and recently wanted to learn to play slide blues. I received this book as a gift and am a few lessons in so far. Speaking as an experienced (though not amazing) guitarist who is a newcomer to delta and slide blues, the book and the audio samples are a great way to get started. I appreciate the author's statement... "Once I've described what's going on in the music, please try to get the SOUND and FEELING of the examples in your head and forget as much of the academic stuff as possible." Great advice. With that thought in mind, I have been able to take the exercises/ideas and improvise and build on them myself.Based on the first few lessons alone, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn delta blues slide guitar.

Guidebook for Catching the true "Delta" feel on Guitar!
LOVED this book. Start at the beginning through advanced concepts. Complete listening guide (Bukka White, Elmore James, Son House, etc.) of the Delta Blues greats. Step-by-step "how to" and theory behind "Open Tunings." Concise notes, tabs, and tempos. It should be difficult to catch the "feel" of Delta Blues with a book, right? WRONG! Includes a link to a FREE download of all audio files of the lesson examples! Learn the concepts by reading, get the fingering locations down on the fretboard and THEN listen to how it is supposed to sound with the audio companion. EXCELLENT teaching concept and TERRIFIC book. Many thanks to the authors. Provided MUCH more than I was expecting.

Well written, easy to understand.
Excellent. Starts right at the basic beginning and builds quickly. Just what I needed to get started playing my resonator. Initially I thought the book seemed sort of thin, not many pages. Forget that, every page is packed with easy to understand detail and this book will provide more hours of practice and instruction than you might think. The Internet accessed audio tracks are invaluable, help so much.

Slid'in Into Open Turning
The book is top notch. I like that the author limits the tunings to Open D and Open G. It's easier on me,and on the strings and guitar. And the techniques learned here can be applied to other open tunings. Also for those of us that can be rough on books, this is holding up really well (I've been using it now for about a year along with a couple other books I use). And I love that it gives me more than enough examples to string together, substitute, add to, etc so I find myself losing myself in the sound that I'm playing and creating.

Ideal book for beginners in Delta blue sound
This is a Very helpful book. It gives you the right notes to get that raw delta blue feel. Buy a slide when you buy this book as it’s a must, clues in the name of the book. I’ve quickly learned a few licks and progressions that have given me a basic foundation to build on. I’m still working through the book as it gets increasingly more technical as you go through. I’m hoping that by the time I get to the end I’m going to be able to jam along with other musicians and enjoy some delta blues of my own making. Cheers!

really useful
I loves this book. The book is well structured and is fun and easy to work with form start to finish. The exercises are excellent, ranging from very easy to quite difficult, the corresponding audio files were easy to down load. Without the audio files some exercises would be very hard to do. It did inspire me to explore more and I will.I would highly recommend it.

Enjoyable, informative and well structured
This is an excellent guide. I have been playing guitar for fifty years and have amassed a large number of guitar tutors ( classical, jazz, ragtime, blues etc ). This is one of the best. Mr Clay knows how to teach, how to structure a course. And with the ( essential ) audio back up, I found the whole experience most enjoyable and informative. My Micheal Messer guitar has never sounded so good ! I like the way we are encouraged to develop the ideas in the book to our own ends - even if we are are not pure delta blues fans.

A GREAT GUIDE IF YOU WANT TO PLAY THE REAL BLUES !
A solid and hugely useful guide to playing blues, but with one reservation it does not include CD to help on what you should be playing and how it should sound. There is a download link but here in the UK it came with a warning not to open it.But overall the book does what it says on the cover very well indeed, but as said a disc would have been a huge bonus. For that reason alone four stars

Great technique builder
I've been messing around with open tuning and a slide on and off for years but never with any definite structure. Found this book on Amazon and it's been a massive step change in my slide technique (got some technique now!). Working through the downloadable audio lesson clips really improves the experience. Great starter book)
