Incredible Story
I have watched Alone in the Wilderness many times since it first came out but had not read the book. Well I’ve had it now for a week on my kindle, I know Dick probably wouldn’t approve, and I’ve read it twice. His story fascinates me. What an amazing man and what an amazing skill set. The book really captures it. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Enjoyable and Relaxing Read
For me, this book paints the portrait of Dick's personal interaction with nature via his heart, mind, soul and "Hands". I love a book that absorbs me and this one I will always treasure as one that did. The way that my thoughts became a companion with the details and the way that each documented experience turn into a realistic experience. Definitely one of my personal "Goodreads" & I highly recommend it to others.

Alone in the Wilderness
This is a remarkable testament to self reliance, independence, and coping with solitude and isolation. The story of how the cabin was built was fascinating. The result was a comfortable building that protected Dick Pronneke from the elements for decades and which survives today. The author was an acute observer and his account of his daily life in the wilderness remains inspirational. Many people have probably fantasized about such an adventure. He actually lived it.He showed that with inspiration and nerve it can be done.

Inspirational
Man I can't contemplate how much the series of Dick Proenneke has helped me through struggling times. I will be forever grateful for what he has given me and show that you need to follow your dreams even if it's a dirt road on the highway of life.

One helluva story
We saw the video on a tour when in Alaska and it was THAT amazing and intriguing we had to own this. Since then we've read or viewed whatever older (non-histrionic) programs we can about the wilderness life in Alaska--- not the TV 'reality' stuff, but things like this that are enough enthrallment without the overt drama. It's worth owning.

A Classic
This book and its story will never grow old, even as the earth gets further overpopulated and polluted. A man's man (if it is acceptable to use that terminology anymore) and his quest for silence and solitude, beautifully told in journal form.

Entertaining...
This is an entertaining book about Richard Pronneke's adventure to build a cabin and live a self-sustained life in the Alaskan wilderness. To say that Mr. Pronneke is a fascinating character is an understatement and reading about him is very much worth the time and effort. The reason for the 2 star rating is because while this is written to appear as direct log entries from Mr. Pronneke's journal they are not. Mr. Pronneke is on record as saying that he provided the logs to the author of this book, but they are heavily edited to the point he felt that words were being put into his mouth. There are other volumes about this part of Mr. Pronneke's life that are much truer to his own words.
