The Book of the Ferrari 288 GTO
R**R
GTO, GTO, GTO
The 288 GTO was Ferrari's first modern (modern) supercar, from which the legendary F40 was eventually developed. This is probably my favorite Ferrari. This book shows you everything you need to know about the 288 GTO with tons of great photos! It even includes the entire owner's manual. Not many people can see the original of this...

The Definitive Book on this iconic car
I finally received this book yesterday. I was absolutely delighted!Yes, with this type of book I expect to read some historical and technical information, driving reports, technical specs. . . essentially the sort of thing I would expect to find in an automotive magazine. And this book has it.But the main point of a "coffee table book" is always the illustrations, and this volume presents some of the finest automotive photography I have ever seen. A bit is reproduced from other sources, but most of the photos appear to have been taken by the author or his pro photog wife. The photography is second to none.It seems that some of the 1-star reviewers couldn't be satisfied no matter what Mr. Sackey had done. Give a few people a chance to criticize, and they seize the opportunity to chew others' efforts up, spit them out, and stomp on them. Truly sad.

Somewhere in between
I'm somewhere in between "Tifoso Americano" and the bizarre 5 start reviews (especially the one that is supposedly written by Mr. Sackey himself and sounds more like a sarcastic parody of the pro-book reviews). By no stretch of the imagination is this an excellent book. The original writing provided by Mr. Sackey is minimal. The majority of the content is filler. Reproductions of publicly available documentation like FIA papers, owner's manuals, part assembly blow-ups from a technical manual, Ferrari product literature. These reprints might have been more attractive if they actually filled up the pages they were on. Instead they are in slide format with large borders and at a scale that requires a magnifying glass to read. An entire chapter devoted to magazine covers the 288 was on? Really?! Especially at 4 covers a page? Even inexpensive portfolio books give the articles as well!Maybe I was bound to be let down as Veloce has been teasing us with the book's possible publication for a few years. But the truth is that the only reason I can give 3 starts (it's OK) is that there is nothing else in print out there. The other publication that Tifoso Americano mentions is long out of print and in the hundreds of dollars if you can find it.At the end of the day the 288 GTO is a great car, but the book is OK at best. Unless your a completest I wouldn't recommend it.

I expected more...but it is comprehensive.
A bit expensive and it took too long for delivery. Great expectations not really met. It should include more and better photographs.

Excellent book, with high quality pictures, never seen before stuff and a very useful "chassis numbers" section.A "must have" for 288 GTO owners, and even for every Ferrari collector and enthusiast, at a very low price considering the quality of the book !Olivier
