Safe T Alert 40-442-P-WT Propane/LP Gas Alarm - 12V, 40 Series Flush Mount, White

Not sure what some of the other reviews complain about - this is the exact replacement for the detector in my 2005 Four Winds 23a (ex Cruise America). The old detector beeped and flashed the alternating red/green LEDs and it was time to replace. Absolutely a drop-in replacement, took all of about 10 minutes from start to finish and I was on the road. FWIW, the detector I replaced was dated 2008 so it's unlikely I'll replace this one before it's time to trade in/sell/quit RVing.The usual Amazon Prime fulfillment meant I didn't need to delay my trip.

This was an extremely confusing item to order. Conflicting model numbers and wrong stated dimensions were confusing. To set the story straight, this is a Safe-T-Alert model 442-P. A model 442A is pictured. Headline says it's a 442-P. It is made by MTI Industries. This is not the model 541 with the rounded front. The Product Dimensions WRONGLY state 12 x 8 x 4 inches, but its real dimensions are 3 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches wide. It is flush mount, but it does protrude into the wall so you'll need a cut out. This is a 12 volt model with a black and red wire for connecting to power. This has 3 line slots below the test button and 3 1/2 line slots above. I bought this as a replacement because the old one was over 5 years old. The new one fit perfectly.

I installed the sensor in a 30 year old and small RV. biggest challenge was to find a good locations in the limited space. The instructions provide some guidelance regarding suitable locations in RVs. The installation itself is easy, cut out some wood panels, connect wires, done. I did a test run with propane gas, and the alarm sounded as expected. Note that the sensor is good for five years. Also note that it draws I believe 90 mA from the deep cycle battery. I will install a switch to turn it off during RV storage when the propane tank is closed to avoid battery drainage.

Fit perfectly in original cut out and easy to install. Need to make sure you keep the old connectors because new Safety Alert does not come with its own connectors.

Just need to make sure what kind you are ordering this one was flush mount.Took just a few minutes to install fit great in the old hole

I needed to replace this detector because the end of life clock trigger the beeper and couldn't be silenced. This replacement was exactly like the one it was replacing so swapping it out was no problem at all.

Works as advertise in my Motor Home.

I rarely write reviews for products since im satisfied most of the time. Although, this product really disappointed me and I wanted people to be aware.Bought one unit 9 months ago. Two weeks ago, it started blinking red and green which means its defective. I called Safe T Alert and told them I needed a unit before the 25th of Mai 2018 for vacation and asked for help. They asked me to return it and wait a couple of weeks for repair because I live in Canada (in other words, I needed to buy another one if I want to camp this summer). Were talking about a 100$ unit that lasted 9 months... and 6 months was unused during winter.Then, I called amazon which was really helpfull I got to say. I got another unit that I received 2 days ago. Beleive it or not, this one was beeping defective as well. This time, it was red red green green, which means the unit is out of date.Since I really needed this unit before my vacation, i went to the RV store in the area. They sold me a working unit (still same model) that finally is not defective.I now have 3 units and only one that works. Needless to say how many hours I spent trying to find the issue in my wiring and on forums because I thought it was impossible to have 2 defective unit. What a waste of time and money.

This is a quality product... the only down side if you can call it that, is the flush mount. It is a clean looking final install but a pain to cut the proper opening close to the floor. So, overall I think this is a great product and it looks great, but it is some work to get installed.

Item came on time. Worked as needed when my son's freind turned on the propain but did not light the burner. Thank you.PS it was a perfect match to my old one and was $50.00 less than the rv shop in town.
