This is a hard 81 piece puzzle, because the puzzle is cut so that any two pieces can fit together, and there are a number of false edge and corner pieces (click on the small image below the big image above to see example puzzle pieces). The dragon was created by Japanese woodblock artist Hokusai, we believe around 1830. All our puzzles are made with 1/4" thick wood. Packaged in a sheer organza drawstring pouch. Warning: puzzle pieces are a choking hazard for small children.

Fun and challenging puzzle!
I have been a fan of Artifact Puzzles for almost 2 years now and have several. I have been going back and forth on purchasing this one as it is fairly small and I wondered how much of a challenge this would be. I finally bought it and put it together today. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the purchase, though there are a few things I'd change. The negatives: the picture you see is not quite the one you get with the finished puzzle. The water seems like quite a bit of it has been left off the actual puzzle. Also, while multiple straight edges inside the puzzle are nice and challenging, there are enough put together in a row that the puzzle does not fit firmly together-right in the middle on the left side, especially. This is not a puzzle that would stand up for a lot of adjustments. The positives: Very challenging for an 81 piece puzzle. Even up to the last 5-10 pieces, I was having to try multiple pieces to find the correct one. It's very easy to fit a wrong piece as they are all interchangeable. So you do have to pay attention to what you're doing. Normally a puzzle this size would take me about 30 minutes to do, but I worked on this for over an hour and a half. I feel like I got my money's worth of entertainment for this one!Like the other Artifact Puzzles I own, this one is well made and the pieces are smooth. I'd buy it again or for another puzzle lover.Overall, I did enjoy it and would have given it a 5 star review if the puzzle had interlocked just a bit more on that left side to make the puzzle integrity a bit more solid.

Too loose a fit and too much image missing for too expensive a puzzle
I have two Artifact Puzzles wooden lasercut puzzles, and two Liberty Puzzles wooden lasercut puzzles. I am rather disappointed in the Artifact puzzles. There is far too much play in the fit between pieces and way too much of the image was truncated in the transfer of the image onto the puzzle itself - the picture you see in the image has considerably more of the water design than the completed puzzle does. If you enjoy high quality wooden lasercut puzzles, take a look at the Liberty Puzzles selection. They are slightly more expensive, but for the cost of the Artifact Puzzles, the difference in price is nearly negligible. Otherwise, the fit of the puzzle aside - which is a REALLY big thing to discount, given we are taking about a puzzle, the quality of the individual pieces and the puzzle image itself is good.

Rewarding Little Puzzle!
This is a fantastic little wooden jigsaw puzzle! At 81 pieces, it is a brief, but rewarding challenge. The hefty pieces are cut from wood, so this is made to last. Many of the pieces have a straight edge, so that adds an extra layer of complexity to the puzzle. I highly recommend this puzzle along with Artifact's other made-in-America puzzles.

Challenging
One of the most difficult small puzzle I have ever done. Would have liked to to be a little larger. The piece shapes are not traditionally shaped which added to the challenge. Gave 4 stars simply due the overall size of the puzzle.

EASY! Finished in 32 minutes...
Pros: Made in USACons: 1) Puzzle image is smaller than the image displayed on the box, 2) too easy for the price, 3) pieces are really small (dine-sized)

The wood pieces are a perfect thickness. Reading the reviews before purchasing this puzzle ...
Got this for my 12 year old grandson (for Christmas) who loves dragons and challenges, and is in fact till working on it. Since the pieces are all non-unique, it requires having a strong sense of which pieces really go together. The wood pieces are a perfect thickness. Reading the reviews before purchasing this puzzle definitely helped me decide on this one.

Artifact Beats Them All
I've never met an Artifact puzzle I haven't loved. I've never met another type of puzzle I love s much. This was the first one I bought. I've put it together a couple of times. It's deceptively difficult, given its small size and number of pieces. Always worth it!

This puzzle is also the perfect subject and size for entering into a meditative state
This little dragon is a true brain teaser that sharpens focus. Every piece is uniform so it forces me to think beyond the box and forget about what defines an edge. This puzzle is also the perfect subject and size for entering into a meditative state. Some fellow reviewers are disappointed that the pieces have a looser fit, and, although it is beautiful enough to frame, for me, that's not what this puzzle is about as it serves me far more than a decorative item. So, If you are a serious puzzler craving a challenge, and you know who you are, you should get this 9sq gem.
