Good read during lockdown
While this is touted as a trilogy, the connection between the three novels is, imhop, tenuous. Still, there is a connection of sorts and if you are blessed with mild OCD like me, you will want to read them in chronological order rather than as presented. Siege,Singapore and lastly Troubles.

A journey through Ireland, India & Singapore's transition past Imprialisim.
As a historical fiction fan I found that each booked whisked me to another time & place. However, there's no sugar coating these thought provoking tales juxtaposition of wealth, poverty & the trials at hand.

Five Stars
An amazingly perceptive, entertaining and wide ranging picture of the English empire in decline.

Sorely disappointed
Read this right after I read R.F. Delderfield's God is an Englishman, so it should have been a good transition. Farrell's characters lacked depth. Things moved too slowly, and, worst of all, I found it quite shallow. Only read the first--I may or may not read the next . Probably only if I'm stranded with kindle but no internet access.I intend to reread Paul Scott's books--The Jewel in the Crown, etc. Perhaps they aren't as terrific as I remember, but they were a different class altogether.
