I'm a Bright Medic fan
I'm a Bright Medic fan. I have two flashlights and two head lamps and they are top quality and the company stands behind their products. With that being said, I was in the market for a bike headlight so I thought I'd just order from Bright Medic.First I'll have to say no way this can be 2,000 lumens. Don't get me wrong, it's bright but 2,000 lumens, nah. Once I fully charged the new unit I installed it and used it the following morning at 5am.I noticed when I plugged the battery pack into the light, there is a green ring of light facing the rider. I thought this green light meant the light was fully charged and expected that green ring to eventually turn red as the unit drained. I was wrong. After only 1.25 hours of use on high, the light just went dead in the middle of a ride.I went with a unit with an external battery because I thought it would last longer, but that's not the case with this light. The good news was that there was no dimming of the light as the battery drained (guess that's why I was so surprised when it just went out on me).So the only usable setting for me on my dark rides is the high setting. Medium and low are not an option on dark streets with this light. The beam of this light is somewhere between a flood, with a brighter concentration in the center (but leaning more towards a flood).Back to the lumens. I have no way of measuring, but I'll take a guess that this light is around 600 lumens on high. Put it this way, this light on high is only slightly brighter than two Bright Medic 250 bonfire lights (with a bit more flood coverage). To summarize: Bright Medic is a solid company who stand behind their products.Although I had higher expectations for this unit, it's still good. I will continue to use it as my main light on its high setting, and will still mount a bonfire on the bike as the back up.Hope this review is helpful for those searching this product.Update: 10/15/2015So I noticed today that the green ring I mentioned earlier does turn red when the battery is low. The bad thing is the ring turns red for about 90 seconds then the light goes completely out. Oh well.Updated 10/25/2015:I ended up purchasing a Cygolite Pace 800 to use as the secondary light when the Bright Medic runs dead during a riding session.I originally underestimated the Bright Medic's output. It is still much brighter than the Cygolite.Bumping this to 4 stars. The only thing holding it back from 5 stars is the battery life on high.
