Bienfang Bristol 11-Inch by 14-Inch Paper Pad, Smooth Surface, 20 Sheets

I needed this for school as an architecture student. It came next day as promised. However one corner of the pad looks like a well worn book, and the cover and top sheet are bent. Bent paper is not acceptable paper.

I have some Bee Paper Co. brand bristol paper that is 130 lb weight that is thicker than this supposedly 140 lb weight paper. SpeedBall, please stop claiming that your paper is thicker than it actually is!

The paper was damaged! Horrible paper quality. It is not as thick as it says it is!

I've had good luck with Bienfang bristol in the past, having found it to generally be of superior quality to most other brands in terms of brightness and smoothness. More recently, however, they've made a subtle but disastrous change: they've made this paper thinner, and have obscured that fact by not altering the paper's weight marking. Both my old pad and the new pad were indicated as 146lb. but the new pad was markedly thinner and warped as I drew on it just from the warmth of my hand. The surface seemed inferior as well; a chunk ripped off while I was erasing, which never happened with the old pad. So it's back to Strathmore for me, though I don't like it was well. Suffice it to say: even if you've bought this in the past, you may want to see it in person before buying it again. (And if your local store has more of the old stuff in stock, buy the lot!)

I purchased this bristol pad for calligraphy. Though I used other bristols for calligraphy without issue, this one feathered quite badly. For the price, I suppose the paper is ok, and would be great for other purposes. Minimal tooth for drawing, and I probably wouldn't use it with Markers for the same reason it's not great with fountain pens. Depending on the ink this might be fine. Noodler's X-Feather Ink doesn't feather on this paper, while other Noodler's ink does.
