The Manual to Middle School: The "Do This, Not That" Survival Guide for Guys

My 12 year old son has the attention span of a goldfish and he actually read this book cover to cover and enjoyed it! His school considers 5th grade middle school, so he's already had his feet in the water for a bit. However, he said he did learn some things from this book and "most of it was correct". When asked if it was entertaining, he said "some of the pictures were really funny!". He's not a kid that gets enthusiastic about much other than video games, so the fact that he not only enjoyed this book, but actually read it through, is a pretty big deal!

My son will be starting middle school next year so I bought this book for him. He’s a big reader and his name is Reed, like one of the sons, so he enjoyed relating to that. He absolutely LOVES this book! He’s read it at least 5 or 6 times and will continue to do so. He says he’s getting some good advice from it. It’s pretty cool to see a book written like this by a dad and his sons. Especially at this awkward age of transitioning between elementary and high school. Those are the years where it can be difficult to find yourself bc so many changes happen then—so we appreciate this book. 😊😊😊

Unfortunately, my son does not enjoy reading and I have to force him to read. However, he enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down! I bought it for his Birthday as he prepares to go to middle school next year. He found the topics very interesting and relatable. I also thought it offered good advice. Other students noticed when my son was reading it in school and asked about it. I also recommended it to other moms.

I overheard my rising 9th grader giggling last night so I asked what was so funny. He said, "this book." He was engrossed by the content and loved sharing the illustrations with the rest of us. The author did a great job incorporating practical, valuable, and educational content into a fun, engaging, and interesting way for kids at all school levels... not just middle school.

My son goes back to this time and again and reads little sections and then shares little tidbits with me. As a mom it has been a great way to spark some conversations.

Not exactly what I expected. This book briefly summarizes a bit on each subject that middle schoolers might have to deal with. If you are anticipating a really in depth analysis and well thought out advice- you may be let down.Lots of funny anecdotes and things to make the kids smile.

My 6th grader flew through this book. He really enjoyed reading it and the perspective it gave him on middle school. Even though his dad and I had already covered most aspects of the book, it is always good to hear it from someone else! Fun read!
