Fun cookbook, And very cute!
I absolutely love this book! If you love manga and anime, You'll love how they give you helpful hints with colorful and cute details instructions. The characters are a little forgettable, Except for the mascot, But it gives real helpful hints on how to make bento boxes, To difficult foods that I haven't ever made before. I can't wait to get my hands on the ingredients to make Dango, So I try them. This book will make you want to cook, Because it's so much fun. And it has friendly tips on how to substitute ingredients if you can't find them in your local store, And how to make things from scratch that are hard to find pre made.A very good buy, Though I would advise it for kids over a certain age, Because it involves chopping and cooking on an open stove. Adult supervision at least for the kids. And a good little Japanese lesson on nearly every other page too.I love it!

Fun and kawaii!
Update: Made the dango after ordering both types of rice flour and they came out perfect. Perfect consistency and delicious. We liked them dipped in dumpling sauce. This is such a fun little cookbook that has caught my 5 year olds attention for sure! He has already had me make the little octopi and sea creatures within 20minutes of recieving the book and wants us to get all the ingredients for the next recipe. This looks like it's going to be quite the hit so we went ahead and ordered the second book too.

A Must Have! <3 <3
Firstly this cookbook would be awesome for newbie bento cooks but anyone will get a huge grin and giggles over reading this book. I got even more fun because mine was a used copy whereas the previous owner took the time to write in the notes section her own recipes including one for homemade Pocky. Manga University the publisher of these books hit the nail on the head with the cute characters, easy to follow recipes and even some new ones even seasoned bento makers will love. Definitely a great addition to you Bento Library.

Very cute and informative!
I gave this to a friend for Christmas, but if I had gotten the chance to read it beforehand, I would've kept it! The artistry is adorable and the instructions and recipes are incredibly easy to follow.

Good for 10year old
This is perfect for my 10 year old. Recipes are simple and easy for her to make. One complaint: many recipes use plastic wrap constantly-SO wasteful! Not that I never use plastic wrap, but this is excessive. I will be thinking of alternatives. I’ve seen silicon onigiri-rice ballshapers online and bowls could be covered with a damp cloth instead of plastic wrap. Very nice book, though - simple, cute, healthy foods.

Preciously adorable but difficult to follow the recipes unless I’m on the 3 step simple ones
I wrote this book is positively adorable, it really is precious, I cannot possibly as an adult, follow it clearly in regards to simple recipe following. Just too difficult but it was equally difficult to return because it is so pretty and cute!!!! Unfortunately it just did not serve my purpose And I am at the point in my life where I cannot keep anything I cannot use.

Excellent Beginner Book
At first read through this book is well laid out with simple explanations, cute narrators and easy to follow directions. My first attempt at actually making one of these recipes was a disaster though. I really think that the measurements for the ingredients were way off so I am worried about how the rest of the dishes will turn out. My two year old LOVES the Dango song at the end of Clannad so I tried making Dango for him. All I can say is it's a really good thing that I have boys, because the 'Dango' turned out looking more like boogers than cute anime characters. So I had to take off a star for that frustrating experience, but everything else looks really easy (hopefully not deceptively so like the Dango!) and I really can't wait to try again.I bought this book so I could get some ideas to start making bento boxes for my boys and was surprised at how many of my favorite Japanese dishes were in there. It has an ingredients list in front to help you identify the things you aren't familiar with and even lists some substitutions and tells you how to make basic ingredients. All in all I really wanted to give 5 stars and I would have if it wasn't for the dango fiasco. Even if none of the recipes turn out right though, I still learned things. I recommend it highly for beginners like me :)

Eh.
I'm honestly not sure what to think about this. I tried a few of the recipes with mixed results. Not going to give it a very bad rating because 1) I haven't tried every recipe, and 2) taste differs from person to person.Personally though, the sweet omelette wasn't my thing, and the miso soup I made tasted... not very good, to be honest. My dango turned out very strange, though this might be because the ingredients were a bit confusing (as in, is this flour from my import store the flour required to make these?). They might be usable with a few adjustments to the ingredients, but in my book, this book wasn't a huge success and came with some disappointments. It does however have some cute bento tricks, and tells you how to make pretty cute onigiri, and for beginners, how to cook rice properly.

Too Hard to read without zoom.
Edited 01-March-2011Ok This book requires the use of the (somewhat hidden function) zoom to read as the font resize options do nothing. After that its quite a nice book with somewhat simple instruction that even a 31 year old cookaphobic like me can understand.

great book, v fun and useful
The book is great, very good quality and easily accessibleI bought it used, so it had some library wear and tear, pages falling out etc, hence 4 stars, but it did not impede on the qualityShipping was fast given it came from America, so all in all very happy! :)

Huge manga fan, my partner and I, so this has completely revolutionised our cooking regime. Simple and easy, unlike most cooking books and written like a manga, so is fun and easy to understand.
