Loved these - but velcro is garbage
I decided to use cloth diapers before my daughter was born, so when she was born, I had these prepped and ready. I used disposables until she was past the meconium stage. I then used up most of my disposables before getting tired of the blow outs. I started using this and had no more blow outs. This kit only contains 12 diapers which is not enough for a day for a newborn. I bought the step up pack which gave me 6 more prefolds and two more covers. I then bought some OsoCozy prefolds so I could have a dozen extra.I had some concern ahead of time since there is no umbilical stump cut out. That was not an issue. The diaper can be easily folded to avoid the stump - I will post a picture. I used a jellyroll fold (check YouTube) but I folded the extra inch or two over in her back.If I could do this again, instead of this kit I would buy Real Nappies 6-Pack of Snug Wrap Diaper Covers, White, Newborn Size, for babies up to 12 weeks, 6-13 lb along with two dozen of these: OsoCozy - Indian Cotton - Prefold Cloth Diapers Infant 4x6x4 (dozen) The infant size 4x8x4 are only about a quarter to a half inch bigger than the newborn Real Nappies prefolds once prepped, so I would skip the newborn size. You don't need liners if your infant is exclusively breastfed. My daughter goes through 15 to 20 diapers a day (she will pee, then poo after we change her, then poo again after we change her again). You may need 3 dozen prefolds if you want to do laundry every other day, but I would start with two dozen.Just remember that with all prefolds, you have to wash 3 to 4 times to wash out the natural oils and make them more absorbant to prep them.Update -I edited this review twice and Amazon "lost" the edit on two occasions. The velcro on these covers are garbage. They don't last long enough for one child so they won't last long enough for two. Within four weeks all five covers we purchased had shot velcro. We had to stop using these because the only way these would stay on our daughter is if we taped them on her which we did until some one size covers we bought arrived. She did not reach 13 pounds until almost four months of age. We were able to use the prefolds with a Snappi up until that point. The cover would have fit that long as well if the velcro was good for anything.I'm giving these two stars because the prefolds are great. We still use them as inserts in pocket style diapers. I also still use them occasionally as doublers on my toddler. I also use them paired with a hemp insert to stuff Tru-Fit underwear for my older child with nocturnal enuresis. When used for several months, the size of the OsoCozy infant sized prefolds and these are identical. I can only tell them apart because the Real Nappies prefolds have (obnoxiously large) tags.We switched to one size covers at five weeks of age (about nine pounds) because these covers were garbage. The one size covers were huge and sometimes leaked because they were way too big on her, but at least they stayed on her. One size covers didn't fit her comfortably until she was almost four months old (12 pounds) - about when these should have been outgrown.Thirsties size 1 and Blueberry mini-coveralls are much better options for newborn covers. They cost more but last until about 18 pounds.I will also add that I started out using one of the detergents that this manufacturer recommended - Country Save - and used that brand for the first six weeks (so the covers were only washed in Country Save). The prefolds were horribly stained and smelled even though I used a full, heaping scoop in both a quick wash and a heavy duty wash. I switched to Tide original powder (again after the covers were useless) and the prefolds gradually became white and they were no longer were stinky. Two years later, I'm still using Tide original powder on my diapers and they haven't exploded or disintegrated. They are still pristine and white and look brand new. No signs of holes, wear or tear. Save yourself some trouble and use real mainstream detergent and don't waste your money on special, weak "cloth diaper safe" detergent.Update - I replaced the velcro tabs to give them to a mom in need. It was actually pretty simple and I am a VERY novice sewer (not sure if that's a word). There are a lot of YouTube tutorials. They will last for more than one child if you can sew at least a small amount to replace the velcro. I used higher quality velcro than Real Nappies does so I am sure the covers may last through more than two children. If you are looking for velcro covers, Tots Bots probably has the best velcro on the market.

Work, but there are better alternatives
I bought this set because I thought it would be a good introductory pack to cloth diapering, which it is. The diapers are very absorbent (use diaper detergent), and the covers have not leaked on us. So overall, it was not wasted money. This set only contains enough diapers for 1 day of newborn diaper changes (if you're lucky). You'd need to get two or three sets just to avoid doing laundry daily. Well, really you need 2-3 sets worth of prefold diapers, and could get by with fewer covers.I just wish that I had realized that I could buy all the components of this set cheaper elsewhere:Thanksmama.com Prices:White Indian Cotton Prefolds - Infant 4x8x4 $21/dozenProrap Classic Diaper Covers - Newborn - White $6.99 eachBio-Soft Liners - Small (5x12 inches) $6.29Total <$50 for the same quantities of this setI bought the items listed above and the prefold diapers are EXACTLY like the ones in this set, and my husband and I actually prefer the prorap covers (they dip for the umbilical cord stump). Also, breastmilk poo can go straight into the washer, no liner needed.

Simple and effective
We bought this set of covers and diapers after getting home with our newborn and realizing that the one-size diapers we had were still too big. Our son was 7.5 lbs at birth. I now wish we hadn't bought the one size diapers at all. These are great. They are very easy to use. I had thought the velcro would be a problem in the wash so all our one size ones are snap. The velcro is so much easier and these have a spot to attach the tab to when washing so they don't get stuck on the diapers which makes folding easier and keeps the velcro strong. We have been using these for over a month with a boy who pees a lot and has very wet (breastfed exclusively) runny poos and have only ever had one leak and that was user error (we didn't notice the diaper was sticking out of the cover slightly in the back) and even then only a tiny amount of pee leaked (less than an inch square of his onesie was wet). Washing is easy - we run them on the cotton setting on our washer with a pre-rinse and they come out beautifully and we have not had any staining. Our son is about to out grow the newborn size covers and we are getting the next size up today - the one-size ones still don't quite fit).

Unless you're baby is abnormally small, save your money
Our son is 7 lbs 10oz, not a huge newborn by far, and yet the second we place these constricting poo collectors on his tiny little body he screams bloody murder. They are way too tight for a newborn. This should be relabeled premature. The inserts and what have you are insanely bulky and I think that is a primary problem with this product. It's like stuffing your underwear with a feather pillow and trying to walk around comfortably... Not going to happen. Extremely irritated we wasted $70+ on these and we can't even use them. Maybe we'll use the inserts as burp cloths and the outer shell as a bathing suit or magic hat for a teddy bear or something because that's about all they're good for.

Inserts are huge for newborn
Overall this is a good product. The diaper shell is the right size and made well, yet the inserts are huge and my baby weighed 8lbs at birth..... The inserts are good quality as well and for now I'm using them as burp clothes, and hope to use them as intended in a month or 2.

Love
I love that these are plain and simple. Also the wraps and diapers are so sturdy, they seem comfortable on my baby, they're certainly effective, and in my opinion very easy. My baby had many leaks before we switched from disposables, and with these he's only had one or two and no rashes. I haven't yet used the liners. My husband likes them, too, and so do the grandparents.

Mommy to be
Great starter to transitioning to exclusive cloth diapers!! So affordable and soft! Our baby is not born yet, but we look forward to the savings and eco-friendliness that cloth diapers allows us to have.
