CLIFFORD JAMES Men's Classic Brogues Genuine Leather with Leather Soles

I am now on my second pair of these but I don't think I'll buy a third. They look just as one would expect and are typically available at a good price. I chose these because the leather sole helps with electrostatic discharge: since switching to these shoes I get far fewer shocks at work from light-switches and door-handles. However, a downside of these leather soles seems to be that they really let the cold in. The shoes aren't great outdoors anyway: especially when they first arrive before they have worn, the soles are very smooth and easily slip in wet weather. Perhaps that is all normal for leather-soled shoes though.There are some annoying issues. (a) My first pair, the right shoe's tongue started disappearing off down to the left. I've never had that problem with a shoe before. I see with my current pair the same starting to happen! (b) The inner lining at the bottom of the right shoe has already come significantly unglued in my current pair and I've had them for less than six months. (c) The laces they are supplied with require a double knot or you can't get more than a few hundred metres without one coming undone. Easily fixed with new laces.

When you first get these you think wow, they're quality shoes, how do they make them for this price ? You probably wonder if the price is wrong and you got a bargain.....but sadly that's not the case. I only ever wore these in the office - so maybe to walk between building but that was the sum of outside use.In the first week, as other have mentioned, the edge of the sole came off on the toes...not a big deal in itself but a sign of things to come. Within a few months the heels had worn away completely (not sure you can re-heel as plastic with holes in rather than a solid block), but worse still the sole split away from the heel completely along the join.I did contact the supplier and was asked to send photo's, which I did, but was then asked to return the shoe as it wasn't clear that this wasn't just wear & tear (see attached and judge for yourself). This sort of approach always makes me think delaying/putting off tactics from suppliers.The long and short - these are cheap and poorly made shoes. You are getting what you pay for, so for wearing on occasions eg , a wedding, they'll probably be okay (don't stress them with your dance moves though !). But for everyday wear spend another £15 and buy yourself some Clarkes which are infinitely better made...and more comfortable to boot (excuse the pun).

I purchased these shoes in brown and also in black, at the same time I purchased brown and black Oxford shoes. As I am in my sixties now and find most shoes in the high street keep up with modern styles. Brogues in themselves are stylish enough and the Oxfords a nice every day shoe with jeans or casual trousers. I ordered 7's and to my surprise fit perfectly a shoe horn is always advisable and these at first seem very tight, once your foot is in and laced up, again I was surprised as the shoe very snug and was comfortable from the start. I wore them around the house keeping them on for around 5 hours with no soreness on the toes or the back of the heel as many others I've purchase. Excellent shoes.

Terrible quality pair of shoes. I worn them twice and the right side shoe had a big chunk falling off the front. I contacted the supplier who seems to that it was a wear and tear. If wear and tear after two sessions then this explains why the quality is far from what we are used to. I suggest spend some more and invest in a pair of leather shoes that's real quality.

Bought two pairs of these as the price was brilliant. Unfortunately I can see why. After about 5 or 6 wearings the soles started to come apart. This is on both pairs so not just a single dodgy pair. The ends of the soles at the toes broke off and now they are fraying at the ends and letting in water. Poor quality hence the price.

I noticed the very negative reviews on this brand of shoes but my experience with them is all good. The blue suede shoes fit well, look great and are comfortable after having them on my feet all day.I would have scored 5-stars if (a) I had them longer than a couple of weeks and (b) I bought a pair of black brogues at the same time as these blue suede shoes and I had to return the black leather shoes because the didn't fit, in fact they hurt my feet.The blue suede shoes are great and I am trying to swop the black brogues for grey suede /black leather - so far without success.

Like others I was sceptical of the price to quality ratio but these shoes are amazing. The look great and fit really well. Upon delivery the soles do not look leather despite the ‘leather’ stamp on them but amazingly they are really tough shiny leather. I am nit picking here but I should have looked more carefully before I ordered as the heels are 1 piece solid rubber and my elephant like gait will wear the heels very quickly. I’ll see what my local shoe repair guys can do before I order another pair.

The shoes look really nice and well made.IMPORTANT. As with other reviews they come up FAR too small.My feet are a size 7, I couldn't get my foot into a size 7. I swapped for size 7.5, should have got size 8 as I could get my foot in but it was cramped.To CLIFFORD JAMESplease address this sizing issue. Its your reputation that's being affected. No use making a good product if its description is not fit for purpose. I have paid for two lots of delivery now because of your inept description of size.To CUSTOMERSThese shoes look really nice and classy. If you decide to buy, check other reviews and consider your shoe size needs. I would have been more than happy with these shoes. But I feel like I've flushed my money down the toilet because the stated shoe size does not reflect the real world.., well not in my case anyway.
