Grain Brain Natural Carob powder is sourced from the Carob evergreen trees a member of the legume family that grows along the Mediterranean sea. When brown the pods are collected. The seeds are removed and the sweet edible pulp is dried and lightly roasted.(The pulp is roasted as the roasting process is a Validated 'Kill Step' which is necessary as raw carob may have Pathogens.. not that long ago there was a Salmonella recall on RAW carob powder. This had NOTHING to do with Grain Brain as we are only selling roasted carob powder.) After the roasting process the carob is grounded into a dark, sweet, richly flavored powder called carob powder. Nowadays Carob is very popular because it is the perfect replacement for cacao or chocolate. It is widely used and sold in a huge variety of confectionary products, cakes, etc. Carob powder, being very similar to cacao powder in appearance, texture and cooking properties, can be very easily substituted with cacao in your recipes. Have you ever tried carob? Add this delicious, sweet taste to your baked goods. Do you like carob? You will love this one!! Health Benefits Unlike cacao, carob is low in Fat, low in calories, Caffeine-Free, and Theobromine-Free. Many people allergic to cacao can tolerate carob. Works great in beverages and for baking
I put this in my smoothie and it gives it a better taste. I avoid chocolate because it's a migraine trigger but I was really missing chocolate. Carob doesn't taste exactly like chocolate but it gives beverages a hint of chocolate flavor. It's good in coconut milk for a hot drink and I add coconut fat or butter for added richness with a little honey or stevia. I've used it for baking like I would use cocoa powder and it gives enough flavor that I don't have to feel deprived of chocolate. Carob is a "beneficial" for blood type O. I'm completely migraine free since I've strictly followed the Blood Type Diet by Dr Peter D'Adamo. His book, EAT RIGHT FOR YOUR TYPE, has been an eye opener. Carob powder has many health benefits whether you use it for a chocolate substitute or not.

Like the new container
I don't know how this brand compares to other brands or types(light roasted, dark roasted, raw/ organic) it was good. I'm 36 now and I've only have had carob once in middle school. One of my class mates mother was a real health nut and she had made carob brownies. I remember they were better then I thought they would be. I can see why carob is compared or used as a substitute to chocolate because as far as describing what carob taste like if you've never had it; it's like saying pomegranate taste sort of the cranberries. I made a smoothly with this brand of carob before I wrote this review and I thought it tasted pretty good. Not as good as if you were to use chocolate mine you, but if you're willing to try a healthier alternative that doesn't have caffeine or if you allergic to chocolate then at least try this. I had used half of a frozen banana, four pitted dried dates, some vanilla almond milk, one tsp of chia seeds and two tbsp of carob. When I make this again I'm going g to add a handful of raw spinach.

Great product but less chocolatey than roasted. Mixes very well
I have to say that I like the taste of darker roasted carob better. However, this carob is very good tasting. It is light and fresh tasting without the harshness of roasted. The first carob I tried was the dark roasted. I just really liked the chocolatey flavor of roasted. This one is more on the malty side. However, I do like like it better for making certain things. I believe I will keep both around. This one does mix a lot better than the dark roast that I had. Its just not as rich. I've read that its actually healthier for you untoasted. I have to give it 4 stars. It is a good product.

I am happy with my purchase
I am really happy with my purchase that I decided to give this a five star. the only thing is it clumps into big pieces. I am okay with it clumping up because I mostly use it in smoothies. I also must say that I bought this other brand and this brand taste sweeter than the other brand. I don’t know if this product is roasted or raw but either way it is pretty sweet. This is a great substitute for cocoa powder and is caffeine free which is a plus. I would recommend this product but beware it clumps so maybe look for another brand but I will stick with this brand because I like it.

Carob Addict's Choice
I love this carob. It seems closer to truly "raw" than the other so-called "raw" brands, which means it's lighter, has a pleasant sweetness, and mixes up smoother with a spoon. It's not dried-out and clumpy like some. And what a great price! I recommend it.

The quality and taste are excellent.
I am quite pleased with this purchase. I usually pay a good bit more to get this locally, so I was excited to find it at this price online. The quality and taste are excellent. My one and only complaint is that the container is a bit of a pain to open and close. I can live with that, however :)**edited to add* they changed their packaging from this box with an annoying lid to a cylinder with a twist top. The new packaging is much better!! :)

No bake pill pockets
I bought this for my dogs. I make their pill pockets and use basic oats, and peanut butter. I was at a grocer and picked up some no bake cookies and thought why not try this as pill pockets for the dogs. I substitute the carob powder and a little molasses and make a little thinner, my babies love them. Do not ask for amounts of each as I do not measure.

Everything I expected and more
I have never liked the flavor of milk, but I have always enjoyed milk with chocolate flavoring. Since my teen years, I have used a popular brand of chocolate flavoring, which I still love. However, I have been trying to reduce my caffeine intake. I decided to give this product a chance. While it does not as readily dissolve in milk as the popular chocolate flavorings I have used in the past, it does dissolve if you give it a bit more time. I like to add a bit of malt flavoring to sweeten it up a bit. For me, the results are better than I expected. I will buy this carob powder again.
