We wanted a better quality, COMFORTABLE-to-sleep-on futon. Living in a rural area, we did not have the big city option to shop multiple sources in person. After studying a variety of online offerings, we decided this sofa appeared to be a better quality item in a sea of numerous lower-priced possibilities. I believe the product description stated "some assembly required" and we were not surprised that it arrived unassembled. That said, I agree with other reviewers who complain about the difficulty in assembling. This was aggravated by the not-so-great instructions. Better instructions would have made the assembly process shorter and less aggravating (e.g. I did have to re-do a couple assemblies that I didn't get right initially). I did get the sofa together, however, over the course of several evening sessions, and I am no mechanical whiz. Also, the packaging protection seemed pretty good but one wooden element still got slightly damaged (surface marred) in transit; this was on a surface that is not exposed, however, so I sanded it off and went ahead with assembly anyway. (My experience any more is that damage in shipping is a common occurrence, no matter what the item or who the seller. Shipping companies don't seem to give a crap any more about how a package is handled.) These difficulties aside, we have been pleased with the quality of the assembled piece of furniture, and feel it matches the price paid. The wood and finish are nice, construction is sturdy, the design is simple but functional, and most importantly, the inner-spring sleeping mattress is comfortable - I have slept on more expensive sofa-beds that were not nearly as comfortable. We had a lot of company over the holidays and put this futon to use several times, and we feel it will be a useful piece of furniture for many years to come. The upshot from my perspective is that the assembly is indeed a pain, and potential purchasers may want to weigh this factor against the higher-than-average price; but the finished product is nice and in the end we are satisfied.

First of all it came in 5 boxes which at that point I laughed cause it would be my husband putting this one together. I have to tell you, it took him all of 2 1/2 hours. My husband said this is a solid piece of furniture. The wood IS actually wood. The 'mattress' however is attached when all is done to the wood so you can not turn it over if it gets dirty. I will see about that one myself. As for the mattress, it is as it claims. Is IS very comfortable to sit on AND to sleep on. We bought the full size and it is very nice. The wheels on the drawers slide in and out very easy, no tugging or stop n go. The side trays easy going up and going down. As for the movement of the futon from reclining to bed position, very easy. Bringing it back up, for ours, it likes to stop at the first position, then the next position. Oh, I didn't tell you, this futon also has a second reclining position. As I said we bought the Navy. Navy to me is a Deep solid BLUE. The 'Navy' we received is more of a navy/teal color. It is still a beautiful color, just not what I wanted. We painted the walls Gray and the real navy would have worked better. This color isn't so bad, we added pillows to bring it all together. As for the other reviews, they really should review the products quality and not the difficulty is took them to put it together. They could just explain their experience. I'm just saying. Easy to put together. I was intimidated by some of the other postings, but we had the old couch torn apart and moved out and this one put together and in it's place within 3 hours total. It does take two people to fit the seat into place, but otherwise one person can do it easily. Love the look of it and it appears to be of good quality, with no scratches or damage in shipping. Comfortable to sit on and OK for a short-term use for sleeping. We bought two of these for our one room cabin and so they serve as both our sitting and sleeping units. After a week of sleeping on the mattress, my hips were sore ... I am a side sleeper - and also 58 years old. Probably wouldn't have even bothered me when I was younger and arthritis was something that only "old" people had to deal with. So really mattress is the only reason I don't give tis 5 stars... We added a mattress topper and it is now much better. So I would say grat for weekend guests, but not the best for daily use.

Mattress is really comfortable. Love the fold down side tables but one of our is a little bit unlevel. Probably can be fixed. Frame is very sturdy and shipping was fast. hubby was disappointed that the drawers roll on the floor instead of being attached to the frame. I was aware of this design feature. I think that would be the only thing I would change. Oh, and to offer the mattress in a natural cotton fiber would be good too. That was really the only part that I had to think hard about when making this purchase. I would recommend to a friend.

#1 - This sofa is only rated for 250 lbs! For a sofa in America that's not very realistic. It would have been nice if that fact had been made clear in the item description. Despite being made of some pretty decent wood they decided to support the entire rear weight of the seating surface on a couple rubber/ plastic roller things.Also the pieces that are going to be stressed the most in usage are plastic. Very poor design! Also of note is the fact that the drawers are totally detached from the unit and have no drawer guides. They simply are boxes with fronts and rollers on them that shove under the sofa. They are not enclosed so dust bunnies galore will find their way inside them as well as any curious cats if you own them. On top of the pathetic design this thing was a nightmare to put together! The instructions were very poorly written and some pages were smeared so that they were not even readable. Several times we had to backtrack to take things apart and then redo them.because many of the parts there was little to no explanation of how they were to be assembled. Also some of the pre-drilled holes were not in aliment or cleanly cut making assembly even more of a trial. It looks great though. I sure hope it holds up better then I expect it to.
