The red kite (Milvus milvus) is endemic to North Africa, Europe, and parts of the Middle East. With a wingspan of around six feet, it soars nearly effortlessly as it scans the ground for its next meal, which might likely be a mouse, rabbit, other small mammal, or carrion. Kites are monogamous, mating for life and nesting high in tall trees, often around other kites. They tend not to migrate far from where they were raised, and those that do usually return "home" to breed.
