The Greek inscription "of Alexander" ALEXANDER THE GREAT (July 356-June 323 B.C.) Alexander was King of Macedonia and most of the known world from 336-323 B.C. A great accomplishment since he died at the age of 33. Alexander was also well educated, having Aristotle as one of his teachers. This is a fine example of the period of later fine art (336-280 B.C.). This is a particularly famous coin and appears over a great period of time. This coin was not only struck during the time of Alexander, but also by many of his successors. 2. REVERSE: Zeus seated on a throne, holding eagle and scepter. Beneath the throne a ram's head, below the eagle L and a monogram PS. 4. COIN OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT, LYSIMACHOS HIS BODYGUARD & FRIEND,ANTIQUE SILVER PLATE (297-281 BC) (29mm 11g) OBVERSE: The head od Alexander the Great, wearing the horn of Ammon. REVERSE: Athena on throne, holding Nike and resting her arm on a shield. Far left monogram F. Below Nike, a crowned female head. Lysimachos was a companion and bodyguard of Alexander. He struck this coin after the death of Alexander in 323 BC. He was the strongest of Alexander's successors. In 281 BC, Lysimachos died in battle at the age of 89!
