Yummy for the eyes, the brain, and the stomach!
Sandwiches is part infographic guide to the history and fun facts of food you happen to find between two slices of bread and part cookbook. The book is divided into five sections, from easiest to assemble at level one to sandwiches that require some prep work in level five. Kitchen safety instructions are provided as you go along with ideas of ingredients to swap out in various sandwiches or dares to try some more out there ingredients on a select few sandwiches for the brave.Whether you’re hungry for knowledge or hungry for a meal, this is a fantastic book to satisfy those cravings. There’s a vast array of sandwiches presented, from ol’ classics to the more exotic and obscure, and cover just about all the eating times from meal to snack to tea time to dessert. And if you aren’t careful you may learn a thing or two about the food you eat along the way. I really loved the infographics that introduce each sandwich and how they provide interesting facts about brand name versions of the sandwich to likely origins to special days when the sandwich is celebrated or world records set. A fascinating and tasty book. Recommended for just about anyone who likes sandwiches or food facts.I received an ARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a colorful confidence builder
This book was very colorful and fun. I just loved the illustrations. There were tons of recipes and I enjoyed how they were broken into sections based on difficulty from tossing ingredients together to additional cooking and help required. I can see that if a child worked through this book they would be able to quickly gain confidence in the kitchen. There were also suggestions to expand on the recipes which I think will not only teach children to try new things they may not have had before, but also help them to learn the skill of substitution in recipes and the willingness to move outside of the box and experiment. I especially enjoyed the information about the history of many of the sandwiches.Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

A fun guide to sandwich prep with historical notes, out of the box ingredient substitutions, and more...
As the parent of a six year old, I make a lot of sandwiches. They're practically their own food group in our house. While my son has his preferences (peanut butter & jelly, turkey & mayo), he is open up to trying a variety of new flavors so I thought that checking out this book would be a good way to find new sandwiches and to include him in their preparation. This book will appeal to both adults and children with a combination of fun graphics and handy information. Each recipe is full of simple illustrations about how to prepare the sandwich, including a symbol for the tools (i.e. knives, etc.) necessary and side pics for possible alternative ingredients like different cheeses, proteins, or sides. There's a lot of useful information that will appeal to older readers, though sharing it with younger readers may make the experience of preparing food more fun. Each recipe, besides the appealing layout, has snippets of information that vary between each recipe: origins of the sandwich, regional names, significant dates in history, etc.Split up into five sections that progress from easy prep (Plate & Knife) and end with more skilled handiwork (Extra Cooking, Recipes, & Prep Work), there's a variety of flavors for every palate. Oftentimes there are recommendations for quick fixes to kick a sandwich up a notch, but each chapter also has a "We Dare You" page for wacky, out of the park things to add to a sandwich, like apple pie filling or apricot jelly, bananas or ranch dressing to a grilled cheese. Maybe tasty, maybe gross, who knows? It's up to the reader to experiment!I appreciated how, as new techniques were introduced and prior to the recipes using one, the book took the time to guide the reader through them in an accessible manner that will leave bellies and mind full.I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Book to have in your kitchen library
I am in love with this book!! I am not a sandwich person but trying to eat more balanced lunch at work. I can work with these sandwiches. I like how each one is broken down and given new suggestions on modernizing the classics. Most of the ingredients you can find in a grocery store and you don’t have to pay a lot of money to make your meal. I looked at other sandwiches books and they were more money and I found it was harder to understand the terminology and instructions. I dread making my lunch but this books will make it fun. As well each sandwich recipes gives facts about the sandwich. I also like it not a fancy book, anyone can use it, other books makes it so fancy and I just want to make a basic sandwich. I definitely recommend spending the money for this book. You will use it over and over.
