Misguided
I don't normally write poor reviews but this book is very misguided in its attempt to teach bass guitar.Do not get me wrong, this is a good book for learning scales. However, it is not a good book for bass guitar. The word 'bass' only appears twice throughout the entire book while most of the time the word 'guitar' is used. I know this seems like a minor difference but it is not. The guitar and the bass guitar require very different approaches and this book does not take that into account. I do not believe that the author Joseph Alexander is a bass guitarist or knows how to play the bass guitar as an instrument on its own and not as merely a lower-pitched 4-string guitar. As I said there are some good scales in this book and I can overlook most of the not bass specific things but there is another major flaw with this book - The audio recording. In order to get the audio you need to create an account on Joseph Alexander's website. You will then be given a link and can download the audio samples. During the next few days, weeks, and months your inbox will be flooded with lessons and offers on guitar based things. These can be things like easy chords for guitar to how to play like Hendrix. I wouldn't mind as much except I am NOT interested in playing the guitar.Let's put it this way - Why doesn't he also send me lessons on the trumpet or keyboard? Because that would be insane to send someone who has shown no interest whatsoever in playing the trumpet or keyboard. Well, I do not wish to play the guitar. Yes, the instruments look similar but there is an entirely different thought-process behind them and they both serve very different functions in the band. If anything he should be sending me lessons on drumming as it is closer to the role of the bass than the guitar is.Lastly, they quality of the audio was poor. And the tracks were very short. If you want something to practice to do what I did and find videos on youtube with the bass track removed.

Great info for the bass guitarist
This is great information and I’m having a blast working through the examples and hearing the harmony outlined in the arpeggios. This book does reference guitar as other reviewers point out and I suspect it was ported over from another text but it’s really more of an editing issue. All of the examples and diagrams are for the 4 string bass guitar. In that regard the book is about bass guitar. Aside from that I do not think it is as much of a problem as one reviewer stated. The book is about jazz soloing and when you get to that point the instrument does not really matter. This information is relevant to any instrument the reader plays because soloing, improvising, chord tones, is not instrument specific. This great stuff and just what I was looking for. Despite the unfortunate editing issue it is very much for bass guitar but probably not for the beginner. The person reading this book should probably already be able to play a walking bass line.

Really good book for focusing
The author does a good job of breaking the tasks into manageable chunks that are prioritized well. Also good advice on practice and applying the lessons. A minor annoyance is that it was obviously a guitar text and some of the references are to guitar (like "don't use the 6th string....") when referring to the low E.

Not another Tutor book!
I have so many bass/guitar tutor books to the point where I really do have to get rid, but when I saw this advertised I though 'What the hell! Just one more!' Well, I am so glad I did grab Joseph Alexander's offering... One of many, by all accounts. This is clear, and well pitch for the beginner and intermediate player. Great work!

Missing examples.
Chord Tone Soloing for Bass Guitar: Master Arpeggio-Based Soloing for Jazz BassI bought this as a Kindle download and most of the boxes purporting to show examples of scales, the arpeggio, root and neck positions were blank. I bought this as a Kindle download on my iPad: I don't know if it would be the same on an Android or Windows machine. Most disappointing!Further to my earlier post, I have now downloaded "Chord Tone Soloing for Bass Guitar" onto my PC and the examples are present in the boxes. I would prefer to have the examples on my iPad as I can access this whilst playing my guitars. Playing my guitars in the same room as my PC is not really an option. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate them.
